The Singer Takes it All

By | June 12, 2014

OK here’s something potentially quite intriguing – according to Broadcast, C4 are going to try and steal a march on ITV’s Rising Star with The Singer Takes It All, a live singing show hosted by Alan Carr where the people at home will vote in real time with an app, with the stage moving forwards or backwards depending on how well people are doing and the person who stays in the gold zone the longest winning a cash prize.

Of course they should ditch the stage and just have them on a conveyor belt.

So it’s PERPENDICULAR Rising Star then, a show whose performance worldwide has been rather patchier than you might have been led to believe.

C4 head of entertainment Justin Gorman said The Singer Takes It All had been in development since 2013 and will have a different tone to talent shows on rival broadcasters.

The show is “about being in the moment, not about recording contracts”, Gorman said, adding that the concept was “bold and risky”. He said it would be “tongue in cheek”, with Carr bringing levity to proceedings.

DEFINITELY should be a conveyor belt.

Well it did used to be quite exciting when it turned out someone won £40-50k on This Is My Moment, so.

Edit: It’s an Endemol show, here’s their press release.

MURDER

By | June 11, 2014

It’s still quiet, so whilst we’re waiting for something interesting to happen here’s Cluedo in Swedish.

Fans of such murder mystery should undoubtably be watching South Korea’s Crime Scene as it’s a) better and b) subtitled. And c) features AMAZING game playing by Bother’s Bar mascot Jinho every week.

Two Tribes filming

By | June 9, 2014

Good luck to the crew of new Endemol BBC2 afternoon quiz Two Tribes, filming over the next fortnight. If it’s good it’ll probably be because of Richard Osman, if it’s rubbish probably because of the internet’s Dan Peake.

We’ll probably have a recording report or two sometime over the next fortnight, otherwise if you’re in the Hammersmith area, or don’t mind travelling to the Hammersmith area, it looks like SRO still have plenty of tickets available.

Happy 31 Questions Day!

By | June 7, 2014

Yes-heee-heee-ssss, the Summer is about to get a whole lot more amusing, Bother’s Bar favourite (and financially backed) 31 Questions returns to access television in Melbourne TODAY. It now features a modern ‘dark’ set.

And here’s episode one!

Celeb 15-1

Tonight at 8pm on Channel 4 and the next three Fridays. Quite a large social media push, and some quite good celebrities to be fair. We’ll see.

Watching us watching you watching us watching you

By | June 5, 2014

bbpowtripOr was it “watching you watching us watching you watching us”? Or even “watching you watching us watching us watching you”?

Anyway Big Brother‘s back tonight (C5, 9pm) with its exciting “power trip” theme. The house looks absolutely terrific. You will be able to vote with the official iThing app, and tonight you can affect the launch night twist. You can buy 2 votes for 99p, 4 votes for £1.99 and 6 votes for £2.99, which represents a flagrant disregard for usual bulk buying policy (the unit cost is higher the more you buy). That Big Brother, he just doesn’t care.

We’ve made some nice money on the betting markets the last few years (Dexter! Lauren Harries! Jim Davidson!). My advice is to keep your eye on Betfair. Back someone long (who looks as though they might be positively entertaining (funny, basically)) then lay them off towards the end if you don’t think they’ll win. You’re looking for people whose odds are stupid high but you think will shorten throughout the run. Big Brother winners are either obvious from the start or someone you don’t expect, pray for the latter.
