Show Discussion: Beat the Pack

By | March 4, 2013

Weekdaily, 3pm,
BBC1

btpackJake Humphrey finally gets to host a proper quiz on BBC1, in this one contestants try and get questions right before the pack does.

We went and saw an episode being filmed, we thought it was a decent idea although the questions aren’t much fun and the game feels stingier than most, but you never know how it will edit and they won’t need to show them in filming order so there will probably be a decent win today.

Deepstack poker, Sunday at 8

By | March 1, 2013

Edit: Thanks to Nico W for the tip off, German show Cash Crash (being piloted in the US for Fox as Don’t Drop the Cash IIRC) starts 8:15pm UK time tonight on RTL. In it people try and keep hold of cash as they go through obstacle courses. If you watch let us know what you think, regrettably I’m elsewhere tonight. I have already decided a UK version of the show under the title Dale Winton’s Cash and Carry would be massive.

Do you like it deep? Well that’s GREAT, because it’s the first deepstack tournament of the 2013 BSOP Sunday at 8pm. $10+1 to play and open to anyone regardless of talent or league ambition. Top player/players get paid. Come and join the “fun”!

Also it sounds like Louis Murphy is back with a new computer, and a new episode of Fifty 50 Show is being threatened on Monday. He is looking for guests for a Sunday record, to have a word with him on Twitter @Fifty50show.

Meanwhile it sounds like Bother’s Bar non-favourite The Money Pump is being piloted in the US. We don’t think that much of the Israeli original but Buzzerblog points out that it turns out the original pilot did indeed have a proper physical setpiece. Although by the looks of things it still doesn’t pump so much as just blow the money round a central tube:

And for comparison, the new and improved pitch film (I am proud to have invented the term “pitch film”, I meant “sizzler” but I had a mental block once).

We discuss the original Israeli show here. ITV Studios have bought the international rights, for whatever reason.

Stay tuned

Hello Punters, a quiet period. But we’ve got some exciting stuff lined up over the next few weeks, including having people at not one, not two, not three, NOT EVEN FIVE but *four* recordings lined up, including the new series of Pointless filming next week. What *is* the new endgame going to be like? By the sounds they’re backtracking a little on that. WE’LL SOON KNOW.

This Sunday at 8pm it’s out first double stacked double staked game of the BSOP season. $11 to play and very maybe a whole big bunch of money to be won. It’s open to anyone, so do join us.

Also it sounds like there’s a French version of amazing Italian show Avanti un Altro being pencilled in for France 2. Fingers crossed it will be excellent as French adaptations often are BUT this is crying out to be a Vincent Lagaf show on TF1. The Italian show is so good I fear adaptations will not translate its slick lowbrow charm. We’ll see though.

Meanwhile TVSProductions82 is our current fave YouTube channel. Look it’s got full episodes (two) of Concentration and everything.

Show Discussion: My Little Princess

By | February 25, 2013

mlpMonday, 10pm
E4

We’ve been waiting for this for a little while, it’s a dating show meets Jackass and seems to have a high silliness quotient.

Potential suitors in a fairytale land try and impress a lady’s overprotective father through a number of physical stunts and tests, ending in a power ballad sing off to try and win her heart. It’s from one of the guys behind Banzai! We want it to be very good.

Unfortunately the first episode clashes with Black Mirror on C4 so we’ll probably be watching the premiere on +1. Still though.

Poker tonight 8pm

By | February 24, 2013

Hello everyone, tonight we’re playing a free game of Stud as part of our Mix It Up Real Good poker series. Please come and join us, it’s free to play and ought to be fun.

Here is a basic crib sheet for the game, for those who haven’t played much stud before.

In other news My Little Princess starts on E4 tomorrow night, we will have a Show Discussion post for it, although we’re mildly annoyed it clashes with the third and final story of Charlie Brooker’s Black Mirror anthology so I’ll probably be watching it on +1. So there.
