Observation

By | July 28, 2010

Hayden from Big Brother 12 US = every single young male lead in a Japanese RPG ever.

It’s more the way he talks more than anything. We must protect the Brigade!

End of observation.

Edit: I love what I’m hearing about the current Ignore the Obvious task in the BBUK house, amongst other things, Marcus Bentley has gone in and is providing a commentary whilst everyone tries to ignore it. Will be watching tomorrow.

It’s Tarrant O’ Clock!

By | July 27, 2010

Are you excited about NEW Who Wants to be a Millionaire next week? Me neither, but at least it gives Chris Tarrant another chance to talk up a show which is always entertaining.

We’ve known about this for a while (mainly thanks to Travis P’s tireless research). So we’re getting new graphics and music, no more Fastest Finger, Switch the Question after £50k and a clock for the first seven questions – 15 secs. for one and two, 30 secs. for questions three through seven, unlimited time for the mega money. Phone a Friends will be backstage.

This “will guarantee buckets more emotion, more drama and a tension that will grip viewers at home”.

“The changes just made to the show take it to a new level of emotion and excitement that even I, in my 12 years of hosting the show, have not seen.”

*Does knowing look.*

Letters and Numbers

By | July 26, 2010

Thanks to Timmy who has pointed out that the Aussie version of Countdown, Letters and Numbers, begins August 2nd on SBS.

The set is basically a copy of our domestic one, but I can’t decide if the clock is stylish or a bit naff.

In other news, full on rebellion on Big Brother Africa All Stars. I’d love to see what sort of reaction something like that would get over here. I’d be disrupting the live shows like nobody’s business.

Saturday Night’s Alright for Writing – 24th July 2010

By | July 24, 2010

Right, some experimentation here – new shows can have their own discussion post for their first episodes, but Saturday night at the moment is just chock full of gameshowy goodness (well, “goodness” at any rate). How best for people to go about it in one focussed ‘thing’? So here’s a post for anything interesting you want to talk about regarding tonight’s competitive telly:

  • 7pm BBC1, 101 Ways To Leave a Gameslow
  • 7:15pm ITV1, Odd One In
  • 8pm ITV1, Magic Numbers
  • 8pm BBC1, Tonight’s the Night
  • 9pm BBC2, Have I Got a Bit More News For You
  • 9pm Channel 4, Big Brother
  • 9:45pm BBC2, Mock the Week

Phew, they’ll be no time for dinner.

Show discussion: Fort Boyard 2010 Episode 3

By | July 24, 2010

Well it would be nice if they eventually deign to put episode two up first – it looks like a cock-up on France 2’s part rather than anything properly sinister (although saying that, using exciting cloaking techniques I still can’t get it to load on Pluzz either), and it’s actually not the first time they’ve irritatingly not put the correct thing up, but seeing as episode two last week was the highest rated show in its timeslot maybe they’ll correct it and put more effort into the website this week. But probably not before Monday. Fingers crossed they’ll have episode three up on Monday as well (Episode two discussion should go here to avoid spoilerage).

Mildly Diverting Thing Update

By | July 23, 2010

I really like TV Ark, I’ve wasted literally countless hours wading through its archives. Really far too many hours. But anyway.

They’ve updated some of their gameshow section, two things of particular interest:

  • 1985 Telly Addicts titles – I remember the Paynes, but I don’t remember that look!
  • One False Move – hosted by Andy Craig for BSB and has a theme tune in a very similar style to Everybody’s Equal. Does anyone know much about this? UKGameshows.com draws a blank.
  • The Great Egg Race! Can someone lobby BBC4 for a repeat of those repeats of TGER with pop-up video style facts and new intros from Prof. Heinz Wolff that was on BBC Choice? Thanks.

These can be found here.
