Unbeatable is returning, the first run was basically decent but not much fun, nobody watched it but it’s coming back anyway and people wonder “why IS linear TV dying?”
Still at least we will have lots more Manford smart-casual looks to look out for, so that’s nice.
In other news it’s been suggested Issa Schultz will be guest Chasing in the upcoming series of Beat the Chasers. Absolutely no issue with Issa Chasing in the UK. I do ponder if Beat the Chasers is the correct format to introduce guest Chasers though, I’d at least hope he’s being given some daily shows so the viewers can get used to him first.
At least it was a better show to watch rather than the tournament which is far too repetitive and not many got the opportunity to double the prize fund. Just still confused why Impossible was axed when this moderate numbered show was recommisioned.
I think Beat the Chasers is a decent place to introduce him – I’d feel a bit slighted as a contestant if I applied for The Chase and ended up facing a temp.
I’m fascinated by what they do with him on BtC – they throw him right in the middle you risk the audience going “well who the hell is this guy and why should I care?”, you leave him as the final bonus Chaser, what’s the point of him being there?
You can feel aggrieved as a a contestant but ultimately that’s tough luck, it’s the audience that needs to be appeased.
I wonder what the Express’ take on Chasing By Name, Chasing By Nature is going to be? I’d bet a pound to a penny that it’ll be horrible, but there are all sorts of horrible that it might be…
I wonder if you’ve been confused with an upper case C here, and whether the act of Chasing deserves to be capitalised or not.
Nuts. That explains it.
Would be better to return to 5 Chasers than have an unknown guest Chaser. The 6-Chaser format wasn’t as great really. That said a nice idea to bring an established foreign Chaser in.
Nice to see some changes in the US version too so it isn’t just a Jeopardy spin-off, though 5 Chasers for a weekly format is a couple too many really.
An engaging host and a decent idea which needed time shortening. Unbeatable wasn’t brilliant (or The Answer Trap, sob), but it did have one genuinely funny moment when 2 contestants were struggling over ordering a list of “when did these animals become extinct?” So one contestant picked (iirc) the Stegosaurus, and another picked the Japanese Sea Lion.
Cue Manford: “So, which of these two became extinct earlier? The Japanese Sea Lion…or a DINOSAUR?” And that was the point his attempt not to laugh failed.
It’s Anne Hegerty who won’t be in Beat the Chasers S5 due to contracting COVID-19.
