Weeknights, 6:30pm,
BBC2
New series of cozy post Richard Osman quizzing hosted by the unlikely pairing of Vernon Kay and Paul Gorton off of The Traitors. Every night across a week, three celebs (in week one it’s Anneka Rice, Shane Todd and DJ Remi Burgz) are asked to sort fact from fiction about different places in the UK (week one includes Whitby, Cardiff, Bolton, Jedburgh and Coleraine), in a bid to see who knows the UK best, presumably. Vernon hosts from the studio, Paul has been out and about doing the VTs.
How much more there is to the show remains to be seen – maybe its simplicity will be enough. Let us know what you think in the comments.

Is it just me who has heard absolutely nothing about this programme in the run up to it being on?! This is literally the first I’ve heard of it which seems unusual in an age of so few new formats launching.
I’ve seen barely anything for it, I presume Vernon’s mentioning it every five minutes on his Radio 2 show. I always found Paul to be quite… divisive on The Traitors so is either an unusual or brilliant choice for this (or both). It might be quite a useful bridge between House of Games and Celebrity Puzzling.
I thought DYKYP was… fine.
I’d like to say I have more than that to say about it, but I don’t really. Moved along at a reasonable pace. Had a ‘celebs eat unusual things’ element. Ended with Not Missing Vowels. Could really have done with an audience.
Just watched this on I player, Was looking forward to it after reading articles in the tv magazines and online but In all honesty it didn’t really catch my attention – Was expecting it to be better executed felt a bit stop and start there was nothing really in this which made it enjoyable or amusing. They’ve made the whole concept of a quiz about the UK rather boring and dull.
I love Vernon Kay but I can’t believe he decided to sign up for this.
I don’t think the BBC shouldn’t have commissioned it similar with The Inner Circle which was also shambles, Can’t see myself wanting to watch it everyday, so not sure i’ll bother with the rest maybe if i’m really struggling for something to watch but not something i’d go out my way to catch up with.
Celebrity Puzzling is way better, more fun and enjoyable to play along and that’s on C5!
Very much Vernon Kay’s House of Games with the geography dialed up and the puzzles dialed down. I’m happy to watch pretty much any quiz about Whitby for half an hour, or anywhere within forty miles or so of Teesside, but I wouldn’t tune in for an area that I didn’t know and love.
I watched it on iPlayer and the frame rate seemed a fraction slow to the point that it was very faintly painful to view. Is this just an issue with my computer or was it bizarrely filmed? (Is it in fact filmed in, and I’m exaggerating for effect here, 16K at 500 fps and my computer just can’t handle it?)
Goodness me this was boring
This doesn’t feel like it’s finished. It’s all so quiet – from no studio audience to the sound effects. It feels so budget, as if it belongs on Channel 5.
I was expecting something like the Observation round on Krypton Factor.
“Here’s some footage, and now here’s a few questions, see what you spotted”
Instead we get 2 minute clips followed by.. .. one single true or false question…?
Rinse repeat. And it just feels like that’s the wrong way around.
Too slow.
Didn’t enjoy it, even the Bolton one.
How is this doing ratings wise?
I’ve heard absolutely nothing I’m afraid.
I do like this, but perhaps just because I find it preferable to the news and soaps that many of the other channels use early evenings for. The filmed questions are a nice touch as they add a bit of local colour and variety rather than just having Vern bark posers entirely within the confines of the one room (Osman’s games by contrast never leave the House) – and presumably don’t cost much more than the typical One Show field report or somesuch. Does remind me a little of the parloury game shows that were once quite common sights on weekdays, right through into the 00s (e.g. School’s Out, Headjam) but got pared right back when Beeb budgets were tightening and ITV wanted more slots for Corrie and Emmerdale. It’s not something I’d terribly miss if it wasn’t there, but I’m enjoying it while it is – though presumably I could get just as much, if not more, ‘window on the world beyond my door’ by just watching one of the Brit travel vloggers on YouTube doing much the same as Paul is here.
