New Old Fort Boyard

By | June 25, 2010

This year, new new new is old old old. Thanks to Fortboyard.net for the info.

New tests are all remakes, although it should be noted that many of the games have been redesigned with two teams in mind:

Boulets sur la planche, (ball on the plank – roll a ball along a plank avoiding nails, replaces Marche en tubes)
Salle des tortures (the torture chamber – upper body assault course, replaces Transformeteur)
Bascules magyares (the Magyar catapult – catapult three cannonballs into three barrels, replaces le Smash)
Burin (218) (actually this appears to be new, not a clue, replaces Quatre poulies)

There are new versions of la Cellule qui rétrécit (the shrinking room) and le Bizutage (the hazing – it’s the one where one piggybacks another and they open boxes containing flour and stuff with a large stick).

Four new adventures (again, seeing as some of the adventures have been turned into competitive duels for keys, it will be interesting to see what differentiates them):

Apnée (Apnea. My guess is competitive snoring)
Poutre à la mer (Beam to the sea – balance game, probably)
Poutre étriers (Beam stirrups. This sounds like the competitive version of the suspended stirrups)
Relais arbalète (Crossbow relay. THE CROSSBOWS ARE BACK! Amazing.)

So there we are.

I quite enjoyed tonight’s Wipeout in a slightly different way than usual. It wasn’t the funniest episode, but there were some very strong performances by the competitors, especially in the Wipeout Zone.

I’ve not seen it yet, but I’ve always said that having people to be impressed by is a very important part of the show, even if it’s not the central appeal.

Still loving Double Cross and the Wipeout Zone was better tonight without the annoying paint, but I think the third round was probably the worst round 3 they’ve ever had. It just wasn’t very exciting to watch once, never mind four times. (They had to run on a spinner jumping a sweeper arm, last one standing moves on to Wipeout Zone and the game is repeated)

“Double Cross” requires some degree of brain-work, which is a little unusual for a “Wipeout” game. There are, however, enough spectacular splashes to satisfy the usual audience.
The third-round game was no worse than other third-round games from previous seasons, such as anything involving the “Dizzy Dummy”. It did establish a theme that recurred in the Wipeout Zone, however: missiles as added distraction, as if the Wipeout Zone weren’t tough enough!
The Producers have realized that you have to vary up the menu now and then, to keep the audience wondering what will be next. This was not lost on either Jacques Antoine (“Fort Boyard”) or Chatsworth (“The Crystal Maze”).
One show that might not have varied things up was last year’s “Britain’s Best Brain”, which is on YT. But then, since this show had a “leader board” format, it might be comparing apples and plums (if not apples and oranges) to have different groups of players in different events to test different parts of their brains. I’ve seen the first episode, and plan to see others.
It’s great that folks are willing to upload some of this stuff on YT. That gives worldwide audiences the chance to see stuff they’d not otherwise have the opportunity to see.

It’s being done on Saturday, so it will be Sunday night’s episode. I should be able to get an episode number for you then.

Well it’s Day 18 in the house today, so depends whether your sources refer to the episode the day covers (which would be Day 18 tomorrow), or the day the episode airs (which would be Day 19). Two down from the eviction is your best bet.

So, any wagers on which of the new adventures won’t actually be appearing? 😛

Given that at least one of last year’s new adventures was actually played on other versions, I think it will be quite funny if they turn up in France this year.

I have actually seen a picture of the beam stirrups (you know that bit in Conquer Fort Boyard with the relay race at the end? That.). The rest will be an exciting mystery.

        Ahhh… But still, didn’t 2008 also have a non-appearing adventure? It’s tradition!

Yep, Grue humaine in 2008, Pipe-line in 2009.

Actually I’ve never seen Grue Humaine in any version. What one’s that all about?
