Who’s up for The Jump?

By | December 10, 2014

Davina’s listing the participants in The Jump 2015, which we all thought was going to be crap this year then turned out to be quite amusing:

  • Mike Tindall!
  • Steve-O!
  • JB Gill!
  • Jon-Allan Butterworth!
  • Louie Spence!
  • Dom Parker!
  • Phil Tufnell!
  • Joey Essex!
  • Heather Mills!
  • Sally Bercow!
  • Ashley Roberts!
  • Stacey Solomon!
  • Ola Jordan!
  • Lady Victoria Hervey!
  • Louise Hazel!
  • Louise Thompson!

Not a bad line-up all told, albeit one made up mostly of people doing the reality rounds. Of note: losers are going to “the subs bench”, I wonder what the over/under is on amount of celebs that will have to pull out through injury?

Davina’s very good at writing press releases, it has to be said.

Hopefully they’ll have given them a bit more time to practice the ski jump this year, felt like a bit of a damp squib when they all opted for the smallest jump.

On the other hand I’d be lying if I said I didn’t find all that build up for five metres air quite funny, and Amy Childs refusing to do it was hysterical. In a way, it’s a show tailor-made for people taking the piss on social media, we can argue the pros and cons of such a thing, but it did make the show much more enjoyable last time out than on paper it should have been.

Ditto Splash I suppose. More than a lot of shows, it’s a show that increases its entertainment exponentially when watching communally.

And the fun wore off before the second series of Splash! A tenner says the exact same thing will happen with The Jump. And it’s a very lazy line-up, but that matters far less than it would on shows which feature more “actuality” than a cursory training VT here or there.

It’s quite laughable the way C4 are hailing it as a breakthrough entertainment hit when by the end of season one it rated about as well as decades old Simpsons repeats. Shows what desperate straits their entertainment department are in right now. That’s not to say it wasn’t modestly successful, it clearly was, but let’s not pretend that it was the entertainment show everyone was talking about in 2014. I suspect barely anyone outside the crew who made it will have more than the fuzziest memory of it at this point (and I include the celebrities in that).

In other news I heard a scurrilous rumour last week that the BBC might not be best pleased with The Edge, and might drop it completely (or presumably burn it off in the early afternoon on BBC Two as they did with Pressure Pad). As ever it’s only a rumour, so treat with a pinch of salt. Similar rumours did the rounds about My Man Can (which turned out to be entirely true), Sing if You Can (which turned out to be mostly false) and Prize Island (which I recall Richard Osman denying vehemently at the time, but the show did end up airing in a rubbish slot, so who knows).

It’s not that great, but it’s not completely awful, although it doesn’t feel like a very BBC1 daytime sort of thing really. I suspect it didn’t have many winners.

Speaking of The Edge, whatever happened to Decimate? Was that just a pilot or a series?

Definitely been filmed. Haven’t heard a broadcast date. Been sold to Spain already, interestingly.

Been optioned by a production company in Spain, not commissioned anywhere. Broadcast will print literally any press release that lands on their desk, regardless of whether it contains anything that might reasonably qualify as news.

            It’s airing January, I believe.

Talking of new shows. I was grazing the Christmas Radio Times last night and saw the new lottery wraparound show – Win You Wish List, is starting on the 27th.

Unless I’ve missed this on a regular trawl of TV audience ticket websites, is this going to have a studio audience, or is it all C:/audience/quick_clapping.Mp3?

Bother’s Bar favourites Reggie Yates and Emma Willis to host Prized Apart, it’s being reported.

If that’s happening in January, it sounds like The Voice will be getting pushed back a bit.

Edit: looks like it’s happening in Spring now: http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/latestnews/2014/prized-apart-presenters

It’s gone a bit quiet re: The Voice, I don’t think I’ve seen anything re: spinny chairs, and that was filmed this side of Xmas last year. So basically: don’t know.

I know The Voice has already come and gone over in the MediaCity studios, if that’s what you’re meaning. As far as I know it’s all going as per usual.

Hang on, are we now complaining that a reality show isn’t getting ENOUGH hype…?

I’m saying that normally things leak out about it during the recording, but this year I’ve heard basically nothing – I don’t even remember seeing an audience call-out, and I wondered what was up with that.
