There will be a separate post for Hive Minds tomorrow, but feel free to have a general discussion post for the plethora of new old quizzes starting today.
Show Discussion: King of the Nerds
Konnie Huq invites eleven of Britain’s brightest to Nerdvana to take part in a series of tasks and challenges based around pop-culture, intelligence and ingenuity over eight weeks to determine who will get to sit atop the Throne of Games.
The original US show is good fun so we shall see how this Objective Production translates.
1000 Heartbeats is looking for contestants for series 2
Make sure you’re chatty. Click for slightly bigger (NOTE TO FLYER CREATORS: contrast), the main gist is the address is apply1000heartbeats@hungrybear.tv, closing date 10th August and auditions will happen in August.
Wild Things is returning and they’re looking for contestants
Hurrah! And on another note: an unusual Sky One AND SKY ONE HD entertainment show that did well enough to get a second run – I can’t think of many others in recent memory. Pleased for everyone involved.
Even more excitement next week
Well I think it’s great that so many channels are inefficiently putting out new shows right at the beginning of Summer where there’s going to be no audiences. Some more to add to the list:
- King of the Nerds – Sky 1 AND SKY ONE HD DONTCHAKNOW, Sunday 7pm – this is interesting because they’ve kept the launch of this quiet, rather, and sounds like it’s been on a shelf for a little bit, but they’ve been scouting for contestants for a series two so I don’t know. Anyway Konnie Huq invites self-proclaimed nerds to an elimination nerd-off. If it’s like the US show, actually much more entertaining than it sounds, challenge weeks alternate between creative (cosplay, debating about comics) and technical (drone flying, building structures). US show had a largely celebratory tone, will be intrigued to see how Objective have pitched it.
- The Link – 2014’s second best gameshow OFFICIAL returns with some episodes that weren’t shown during the last run. Monday, 1:45pm.
Happy Quiz Nerd Week next week!
Great news for fans of knowing things!
- Mid-July feels a bit early really but yes! University Challenge and Only Connect start next week on BBC2, Monday from 8pm.
- The nation’s favourite quiz Fifteen to One starts Monday at 3pm on C4! Last series averaged about 350,000 against Tipping Point, but I’m sure BARB just put the decimal point in the wrong place and it’s the massive hit C4 and Twitter likes to think it is and well worth three more series. It also means Deal or No Deal is being rested for the first time in years. It’s up against repeats of Secret Dealers, so it will probably get 40m viewers or something. Benchmark remains off the schedule to give rival shows a chance.
- Two Tribes is also back on Monday at 6pm, and if we’re lucky the tie-in app will be released too. Eggheads once again shifts to 6:30, repeats presumably.
- New episodes of Pointless, for those of you who are keeping track! The Chase continues on ITV as well.
- Next week’s “big” show that will get its own show discussion post is Hive Minds, Tuesday 8pm on BBC4. It’s a quiz with a wordsearch element with Fiona Bruce which everyone has already declared rips off Now You See It despite looking rather different. Being BBC4 presumably the questions are quite tough and there are enough variations on the theme to fit half an hour, we’ll see.
