Show Discussion: The Heist

By | November 9, 2018

Sky One, Friday,
9pm

Apparently this is all on Sky now, presumably as a box set. I will flesh this out later.

Basic premise: ten people rob a van and try and keep the money for two weeks. If that sounds like Hunted, it’s probably because it’s by the same people as Hunted.

Let us know what you think in the comments.

Wie… is De Mol 2019?

By | November 8, 2018

Thanks to TV’s Michael Harmstone for alerting us to this, we’re two months from Mol season and today Arvo released the cast photo.

Who are these people?

Probably most important, new host Rik van de Westelaken (middle) – newsreader, quiz show host, sometime host of Moltalk and winner of WIDM 2015 (discussed here). One of the ten celebs behind him will win money by completing tasks and uncovering which one of the ten is being paid to work against the team for our entertainment. But who is the mole?

  • Nikkie de Jaeger – Dutch make-up Youtube star. Over 11m subscribers!
  • Evelien de Bruijn – DJ and host.
  • Jamie Trenité – Adventure and Science show host.
  • Evi Hanssen – Flemish presenter, ex-host of Expedition Robinson.
  • Rick Paul van Mulligan – Actor.
  • Robert van Beckhoven – Professional baker.
  • Merel Westrijk – Newsreader and morning show host.
  • Niels Litooij – Electronic musical artist
  • Sarah Chronis – Actress.
  • Sinan Can – documentary maker.

And Michael points out that the WIDM Instagram has been dropping hints that they’ve gone to Colombia this year, although WIDM has a habit of splitting over a few places.

Not long to wait, usually it starts first week in January, and hopefully someone will be providing English subs. Ditto the Belgian version which will probably start around March. Exciting!

Show Discussion: I’ll Get This

By | November 6, 2018

Tuesdays, 10pm,
BBC2

A bunch of celebs go to a fancy restaurant and all put their cards in the middle of the table. Between courses they play games, the winner gets to take their card back. The ultimate loser has to pay for the evening.

It’s from 12 Yard so there’s every possibility it will be boring. However they do seem to have lined up some pretty interesting and eclectic selections of guests (episode one pictured it Rylan, Ellie Taylor, Ed Gamble, Carol Vorderman and Anton du Beke, next week Tom Davis, Julian Clary, Laura Whitmore, Rachel Johnson and Chris Kamara) and hopefully it will come across as loose and funny, we’ll see.

Not sure how much discussion this will get, but if you do watch it let us know what you think in the comments.

Buying US e-Shop games on a UK Switch

By | November 5, 2018

I’ve never done this before, but Danny Kerner has pointed out that there are recently released Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy games out on Switch in the US, and I’m currently in a bit of a WoF and J! mood.

Presumably some of you will have done this sort of thing before, is it easy? How would you go about doing it?

(I know I could probably just Google it, but we’re all about the community).

Incidentally, keep Saturday 15th December free for 13th Night: Bother’s Bar Festive Game Night. More details nearer the time.

Incidentally, if you have a Switch quiz itch to scratch, Trivial Pursuit Live! has just come out and presuming it’s a straight port of the (years old) PS4 one is pretty good fun. Closer to Buzz than the board game.

Also it’s Fireworks Night.

Show Discussion: The Time It Takes

By | November 2, 2018

Saturdays, 5:40pm
BBC1

Joe Lycett, ably assisted by referee Alison Hammond, present new Saturday teatime quiz where contestants are asked questions against the clock, but the clocks are weird and wonderful. The best contestant gets the chance to win a holiday.

I think it’s a great pairing, I think the idea on paper is pretty good, I fear it will struggle in the same way most light entertainment struggles these days, if it’s not a crucial watch it probably won’t get watched. Not sure what sort of figure they’re hoping for in this slot. Suspect it needs to feel anarchic to work and suspect BBC-styled controlled anarchy will work against it.

I wonder what happened with the Craig Ferguson US pilot?

Anyway, if you watch it, let us know what you think in the comments.

US Jeopardy is on UK Netflix

By | October 31, 2018

When I heard a few days ago that Netflix in the US has a collection of handpicked Jeopardy episodes up now, I wasn’t expecting them to be on UK Netflix.

But they are! 45 episodes. So there you are.
