I will flesh this out tomorrow morning with the details but we’ve just learnt that ITV2 scheduler, CITV advocate and The Wandering Puzzler David Cooper passed away on Thursday. We’re in a state of shock – David was a big character around the Bar, certainly one of our favourite insiders and someone we could guarantee would be watching our live broadcasts and playing along on Twitter, and on a personal level I always thought our tastes in the genre converged and I’ll be really sad to have one person less to discuss Wie is De Mol? and French Fort Boyard with on an annual basis. He was very much One Of Us.

Our broadcast on Saturday night is dedicated to him. He’d have been watching.

Tonight’s gladiators are Joey Kelly (in his third Schlag outing) and German Pop Idol Alexander Claws. During the ad breaks and boring bits we’ll have various quizzes, including De Slimste Mens. Do join us.

Len Goodman to host new family game Partners in Rhyme for BBC 1, 6×30 minutes, created by DJ Matt Edmondson who also created the similar quite fun party game Obama Llama you can buy from Firebox et al. Nobody mention Wonkey Donkey. Press release already points out “it’s a ten from Len!”

Busy weekend at the Bar – Schlag den Star featuring the VERY FIRST English language De Slimste Mens throughout the commentary tomorrow night from 7:15pm followed by the all new series of Wild Things on Sky One on Sunday at 8pm which we will have a Show Discussion post for.

In the meantime, Chris Dickson sent us a link to a Youtube Gameshow themes quiz to our filler postbag. 37 to name, how will you do? Some of them are quite challenging, although I’m only saying that out of politeness because I got them all.

Granada’s Quay Street opening up for TV business again:

If I’m not mistaken (and I may be mistaken) this is where The Crystal Maze Manchester is opening. People who will know more than me: what does this mean, if anything?

Edit: An insider suggests that the Maze isn’t in the main studio block but one of the soundstages so shouldn’t be affected. So there we are.

As we dip our hands in the bag marked “emergency filler content that was in a comment you might have missed” a follow-up to last week’s Murphy’s Micro Quiz-m, here’s another RTE show from 1986, Jackpot with the late Dermot Morgan. Yes, Father Ted. The game’s as prosaic as it comes – machine selects a category, answer a question on that category, if your opponent gets it wrong you can steal it, first one to light all letters of ‘jackpot’ wins £50 and the option to go for three bonus prizes, although if they get the first question wrong they have to leave the show (mid-80s jeopardy). I don’t know if it’s the same format that Terry Wogan was involved with in the 60s. Morgan tries to inject comedy into the proceedings although doesn’t seem quite comfortable. Anyway, here you go.

Yes I know it barely feels like two days since the last one, but SdS it is. This episode it’s a battle of the musicians as Joey Kelly, member of popular Irish-American band The Kelly Family takes on Alexander Klaws, who was in the German Tarzan Disney musical and won Germany’s first series of Pop Idol, Deutschland sucht den Superstar. Musical turns include Yvonne Catterfeld and Joy Denalane.

Also, and this is something I’m very excited about, one of the things we’ll be doing throughout the ad breaks and boring bits, our fil rouge if you will, is the very first English language (it probably isn’t but I’m trying to build excitement) edition of De Slimste Mens ter Wereld. “They” won’t make it so we bloody will. Which of our commentators will end the night as OFFICIALLY the smartest person in the world? Will there be technical issues? I don’t know! But join us on Saturday from 7:15pm (GMT) to find out!
