Gameshow Moments

By | February 15, 2014

So David B wrote this in a comment recently and I said I’d give it more prominence after Schlag den Raab:

Apropos of nothing, I’ve been asked to put together a list of the top 10 most important game show moments in UK TV history. So may I canvas opinions here as to some suggestions? As well as the usual notable firsts or big wins, it would be good if the choices reflected important moments in TV watching habits, the TV market, or society itself.

If you haven’t got a full top 10, partial list are also very welcome.

Off you go then.

He’s back! Having had two months to recover losing his six-episode winning streak, Stefan Raab defends his €500,000 from another member of the public and we’ll be there to guide you through it inbetween frantically searching for naughty streams that get taken down.

Join us for an evening of games, laughter, tears, more tears, gossip and games. This Saturday we’ll put up a link to the naughty stream we’ll be commentating from as well as the Youtube stream our commentary will be broadcasting from. Regrettably this will likely be on a short delay reaching you watching the same live stream we’re watching – little we can do about that, but on the plus side we no longer have to switch  commentary feeds halfway through. Usually during the ad breaks someone’s got a quiz lined up. It’s all good fun. And we encourage you to send in your thoughts leaving comments on our Youtube feed or tweeting us with hashtag #bbsdr.

Here are all the links you need:

Our live commentary stream link.

This is the stream we will be watching live and basing our commentary on.

That stream will probably go down at some point during the evening, here’s our first back-up one. If it all goes down, once we’ve finished panicking, we’ll put up links to streams we can find on here and on Twitter.

Follow us on Twitter for immediate news if something goes wrong. Or because we’re fun guys!!!! @bothersbar, @danielpeake, @ogbajoj, @davidjbodycombe.

Lorde and Marteria are this episode’s musical guests. Normally there is three, so may be another one will be revealed in the next few days.

In the meantime if you’ve got four hours knocking around, you can always watch our hilarious lo-fi version Schlag den Brig.

This round requires someone who is good at general knowledge

Well look, credit where it’s due, Pressure Pad seems to have got itself a second series (here’s what we thought of the first one, and you lot voted it fourth best new format in last year’s poll). If you want a go then email pressurepad@12yard.com for an application form, closing date 14th April. Good luck!

Meanwhile Ejector Seat and 15 to 1 film this week, if you have first hand experiences of either do let us know what you think by comment or e-mail (if you want to be publicly anonymous).

Schedule Schedule

By | February 10, 2014

So you might have seen this in the comments, but I thought I’d put it up for a bigger audience. Basically Channel 4 are rejigging their schedule from next Monday:

  • 2:40pm: Countdown
  • 3:30pm: Deal or No Deal
  • 4:30pm: Come Dine With Me
  • 5:00pm: Coach Trip
  • 5:30pm: Superstar Dogs – Countdown to Crufts

Who are the winners and losers here? Bear in mind that a new series of behemoth Tipping Point begins at 4pm on Monday on ITV.

Difficult not to see Countdown as the big loser here, just as it was recovering to a halfway respectable figure C4 puts it back to Nowheresville. Deal and Dine will be really interesting, right now Deal‘s getting over a mill and Dine remains a strong 1.5m performer, but Deal’s audience halves when put up against Tipping Point, in theory there are less people around at half three, and it doesn’t fall in a natural junction (ITV has the perennial Dickinson’s Real Deal and the returning Alan Titchmarsh at 2-3 and 3-4, and I suspect people will lock into it for the afternoon if they start watching. On the other hand, Deal still seems to skew young even if it’s only half a mill, and is apparently profitable enough  for everybody that rumours (and I stress rumours) are suggesting it’s been recommissioned post 2014). Come Dine With Me feels a bit like it’s in the middle of nowhere really being a utility prop-up-the-slot show. Coach Trip has been rating well and there’s no reason to believe it won’t continue, Superstar Dogs will have old ladies and kids awwwing over John Barrowman, my gut suggests it might be a fun show in the wrong slot, Barrowman is certainly no guarantee of success. But we’ll see.

The Guess List

By | February 7, 2014

Rob Brydon is set to host a new quiz called The Guess List where five celebrities help two contestants win bespoke prizes. Six episodes, forty minutes each, happening in the Spring.

However we’re BETTER than places that just reprint press releases. FOTB TellySpy went and saw the pilot back in August and told us about it, and I’ll reprint what he had to say now:

It was a bit like Blankety Blank. Two contestants answering questions, with five celebs (Gary Lineker, Hary Judd, Larry Lamb, Deborah Meaden, Sally Lindsay). One contestant then booted and the remaining plays for crap prizes like a breadmaker, chicken strimmer etc. Round one questions are like ‘In a survey, what is the most annoying thing on a plane…’ And in Round Two, the answers are numerical- celebrities answer and then an average is taken and the contestant has to decide whether its higher or lower. I.e how many arguments do the average couple have a week. It was funny and is a lot better than the BBC’s current Saturday night output. Would be very surprised if it wasn’t commissioned. The entire audience were in hysterics.

So there we are. At the time it was going under the title Rob Brydon’s Celebrities, and presumably it’s roughly the same format as Mrs Brown’s Celebrities 12 Yard were working on before Brendan O’ Carroll decided he didn’t need to water down the Mrs Brown brand.

Meanwhile you can apply to be on upcoming BBC quiz The Link if you want. It’s an STV Production for the BBC, excitingly.

Only Connect Series 10 is looking for contestants

By | February 6, 2014

This is the one going out on BBC2 later in the year, and I’ve heard it’s also a bit of a giant series so you’ve a fairly decent chance of getting on – you are welcome to try again if you didn’t manage to get on previously.

Teams of three (although singletons are encouraged to apply and they may be able to put a team together for you) are encouraged to write to onlyconnect@parasolmedia.co.uk with a contact name and number and they’ll send you an application form. Closing date is March 17th so get your skates on. You will need to be 18+, auditions will happen around the UK. Good luck!

Edit: Might as well lump this in here, we’ve been informed of some intriguing things re: 15 to 1. Contestants will get THREE attempts to reach the final a bit like Pointless, it’s 19 heats and a grand final (as predicted), if two people tie after the forty questions during a heat both names will go up on the leaderboard. Also it’s filming soon but no audience call anywhere, so make of that what you will. Presumably they’re going for a less dry angle, but I’ve also the heard the questions are still quite hard, so we’ll see (although I’m still not massively confident, although I can’t fault them for trying to mainstream it up).
