Don’t Forget Your Australian Toothbrush

By | November 2, 2012

So obviously it’s the 30th anniversary of Channel 4 today, and we’ve been following TV Cream’s retrospective. It includes a full episode of DFYT from the first series.

But doing some digging there’s also an episode (in six parts) of the Australian show, hosted by comic Tim Ferguson:

And do you know what? Once you get over the slight sense of the Uncanny Valley, it’s really watchable. They’ve very obviously lifted a lot of the ideas and mannerisms and even clothes from the original UK show – Tim Ferguson is effectively Chris Evans if he looked and sounded a bit more like Alexander Armstrong – but there’s just enough localised stuff to keep it interesting. For some reaosn, it went out on Nine live on Tuesday nights (Tuesday!) and was repeated on Saturday mornings.

Some of us were trying to work out on Twitter if Bet on Your Budgie (part four I think) was something we did in the UK or was an Aussie original idea. I have access to lots of series two Toothbrush, but series one is a bit more difficult to research. Anyone?

I can’t believe there’s no examples of the throw-things-out-your-windows game on Youtube.

Word Up!

By | November 1, 2012

Join us at 6pm where we will be launching Bother’s Bar’s Christmas Bonus competition, the ever popular infuriating word association game Word Up! There’s £75 to be won if you are basically psychic.

Word Up! What’s the codeword?

In other news, Olympic Superstars coming to BBC1 soon. Audience tickets.

We started discussing Channel 4’s new afternoon output (The Common Denominator, Race the Clock, Four Rooms) as revealed in Broadcast here.

But from November 12th, Countdown pushed back to 2:40 to accommodate Sandi Toksvig’s new quiz 1001 Things You Should Know.

I’m a Celeb back November 11th

I wonder who will be on it this time.

Still, you have to admire the team that does the hardest job in all of television, having to come up with slightly different ways to dress up the same two things night in night out (i.e. eating horrible things or being covered in horrible things) for ten years now.

I always thought it was a bit of a cop out that when Ant and Dec did a Bushtucker Trial for Text Santa last year it was Celebrity Cyclone i.e. the fun one rather than a scary one. Although I suppose Ant did do “Catch a Falling Star” for losing Ant vs Dec once.

Anyway, some excitement over the next few days, it’s the Fort Boyard Halloween Special tonight at 7:45pm UK time on France 2 which promises to be very exciting, and that I’m going to have to watch on catch-up (boo).

And tomorrow, tomorrow, another round of high stakes word game Word Up! begins as your Bother’s Bar Christmas Bonus. Up to £75 to be won! Good luck with that. And The Line Up starring David J Bodycombe and Lewis Murphy should be going out on Sunday evening.

Edit: Also Splash with Tom Daley appaears to be very much a Thing.

Hello, not much happening publicly but lots of stuff going on behind the scenes, tomorrow hoping to bring you a proper review of the Fort Boyard app (sneak preview: when you post your score to Twitter, the official tweet leads to the Bulkypix game Soldiers vs Aliens. Erm.).

And hopefully, provided nothing falls through, we’re recording The Line Up on Monday night. The guests are really good provided nothing falls through. Fingers crossed!
