Ended in disaster

Long term readers know we like a banging remix, I found this linked to on Facebook this morning:

Very good. It’s been on Youtube for years by the looks of things, but through accident or design the bloke who did it spelt ‘Krypton’ wrong.

Herbie

By | February 1, 2012

OK. so we had a look at the Catchphrase app last weekend so as it’s quiet why don’t we have a look at the original US version of the show with Art James? Things to note: 1) the scoring system is quite crude, 2) Mr Chips is called Herbie and 3) the animation music is quite jolly:

The show didn’t last past 13 weeks in the US. The show was made in 1985.

Board of Excitement 29th Jan – 4th February 2012

Still not a massively exciting week, but no matter as Bother’s Bar has new CONTENT today, I’ve done a review of Catchphrase on iPad and iPhone (this would have been earlier today but I only discovered this afternoon there’s a native iPad version). It is not amazing, but you could have less fun for 69p.

  • Mix It Up Real Good Stage 2 – our poker tournament odyssey continues as we’re having a fun and free game of Razz this evening (basic rules – it’s seven card stud low, straights and flushes don’t count but pairs and trips do, lowest five cards win and it’s played to fixed limits). If that sounds like fun then register to play before 8pm as that’s when we’re starting. Yes we know Top Gear is on, watch it on iPlayer.
  • Only Connecting Walls – For some reason this is not the official name for the connecting wall nights they’ve been doing. Anyway, here’s the second one for those who can’t get enough of Only Connect‘s third best round. (8:30 and 10pm, Monday, BBC4)
  • The Exit List – Mainly because this would be a short list otherwise.
  • Wie is De Mol? – At some point during the week we’ll have episode four of this to look forward to.

Wow. Well never mind, let’s fill out today with a link to photos of the building of Fort Boyard‘s new watchtower, courtesy of FortBoyard.net. Lovely.

Edit: Fun! Here’s INTERNATIONAL Krypton Factor from 1988.

  • What are you doing on Sunday? No, other than that? Well we’re having a good old fun game of Razz from 8pm as the second game in the Mix It Up Real Good series and you’re more than welcome to join us. It’s free to play but don’t register for the tourney and then not turn up otherwise your unsportsmanlike behavior may be PUNISHED.
  • If you don’t fancy MySkyRewards, Applause Store have one recording sessions worth of tickets to give away for Blockbusters. Oh, actually a few more dates have popped up since we last checked. Anyway, I’m not sure I can be bothered but you never know (busy month, train fare, it’s Blockbusters etc) but if anyone reading is going and wants to write a report let me know.
  • We’ve been reading the good fun Gameshow Confessions blog recently. It’s US based, and the confessions run the gamut from ‘stating the bleeding obvious’ to ‘absolutely mental’. We like the way they’re presented.
  • JOE RAZZ!
  • ITV has ordered a pilot for a panel show called Trending Topics with the involvement of Jonathan Ross. That doesn’t sound like Wall of Fame at all (@tvscoops).

Something to read

Here’s something I bashed out for fun culture blog and fellow East Anglians Shouting at Cows regarding “brilliantly terrible gameshow conceits”. It wasn’t a top five in my head but has otherwise been nicely sub-edited. They are probably not the worst shows, but have been away from the public conciousness enough to make them interesting to mention.

I’d like to thank the production music conversation for highlighting the work of Simon Etchell.
