Upcoming thrills

I totally forgot to mention Deal or No Deal‘s Fifth Birthday of the Third Or Fourth Week of Broadcast Week this week on the Board of Excitement, so to make up for it I absolutely promise to do the Deal or No Deal app review tomorrow.

In the meantime, I have mainly been playing Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood on the XBox 360, and one of its multiplayer modes is absolutely ripe to be turned into something for TV. Basically, eight people in a crowded town, you have to try and assassinate another specific player from which you’re given a photo, meanwhile someone else is trying to assassinate you. More points given for the more subtle you act in killing someone off, points off for killing a wrong person. Good fun. You could make that into a sort of competitive version of Run For Money.

Did anyone watch Mission Millenium (sic) today? I intend to watch a recording of it this evening.

Show discussion: Drop Zone

By | November 21, 2010

3:35pm, BBC1

Right, have a chat about this here, I’ll update it with my opinions after the show has gone out.

Edit: Right, watched it now. I’ll see if I can hide my discussion of it under a spoiler link. It’s certainly worth a watch on iPlayer if you missed it, I reckon. Sorry if it seems a bit rushed, I have to go out.

Board of Excitement 21st November – 27th November 2010

By | November 20, 2010

It’s Action Adventure Early Week on Bother’s Bar:

  • Drop Zone – Steve Jones, eight teams and lots of helicopters. (3:35pm, Sunday, BBC1)
  • The Cube – It’s a celebrity special! Kelly Holmes and Jenni Falconer take on The Cube. (7pm, Sunday, ITV1)
  • The X Factor – This is might be it for Wagner this week I reckon. (8pm, Sunday, ITV1)
  • Mission Milennium – new action adventure from France, although I gather it wasn’t very successful. Also not from the Adventure Line stable. (1:04pm, Monday, TV5, also repeated late Tuesday))
  • Only Connect – Another quarter-final, Radio Addicts vs Brit Poppers (8:30pm, Monday, BBC4)
  • Premier League Poker – Second match, part one. Phil Hellmuth’s in this one. (0:40am, Monday night/Tuesday morning, C4)
  • The Apprentice – Go to Germany and sell crisps. (9pm, Wednesday, BBC1)
  • The Challenge: Cutthroat – I’ll put a rip of the theme tune up here some time this week, as it is this year’s best reality show theme tune. (Wednesday, MTV)

There will be a show discussion post for Drop Zone on Sunday. And some more iPad reviews sometime this week if I’ve got some time.

Early next week is ‘Action Adventure Early Week’ on Bother’s Bar

Right, I had no idea these were on until Iain Weaver pointed them out in his latest TV Guide. They are however Very Much The Sort Of Thing We’re Interested In:

Drop Zone appears to be the BBC’s ill-fated answer to The Amazing Race, eight teams of three are dropped off in various locales around the globe by Steve Jones and charged with doing tasks in order to race to the helicopter and the next destination the next week. The last team back get stranded, if the hyperbole is anything to go by. The official site is here. I think this was pitched for BBC3 originally, so I can’t decide whether being thrown out on Sunday afternoons at 3:35pm on BBC1 is a promotion or demotion of sorts. Edit: My bad, it was always for BBC1.

Mission Millenium is France 3’s non-hit replacement for La Carte aux Tresors. I had been to the website, although I’m not entirely sure what’s going on and don’t want to delve too deep for spoilers, although they do appear to be searching for The Mask of Chaac. Anyway, TV5 are showing it on Monday at 1:04pm, with a repeat on Tuesday evening at 10:53pm. Don’t be late. The series is six episodes long and two hours each – it sounds a bit like Treasure Hunters/The Search (Jamie Theakston’s finest hour) from the TV5 description, although it’s a shame the title is about ten years off fashion.

Don’t Forget Your Headrush

Chris Evans is being lined up to host Channel Four’s Extreme The Games Famous and Fearless next year. that’s the first thing he’s done on the channel for ooh, years.

Also! Fox have put up a trailer for the upcoming Million Dollar Money Drop. With 50 instead of 40 bundles and teeny-tiny drops, expect 40% more faff than the UK version.
