The Real World

By | August 10, 2010

Object number two has now been bought out onto Bother’s Prize Table. Any ideas?

It is also NEW!!! Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? this evening at eight. Will it keep its momentum?

Finally this evening, the last few days I’ve been discovering MTVs Real World/Road Rules Challenge (which seems to just be “The Challenge” now). It’s the sort of format you’d think would work quite well on T4 – throw in X amount of young good looking twenty-somethings in a house, get them to perform outward bound-style challenges, let them vote each other into elimination battles, give them alcohol and watch the sparks fly. Host BMX rider TJ Levin seems a bit of a personality vacuum, although I’ve only seen three episodes so far so that might be unfair. Added interest in that most of the contestants seem to be regulars from season to season for added backstory. Not bad, although it’s been going for over ten years so you’d think they’d have it down pat by now.

It’s Bother’s Prize Table!

321 Ways to Win a Gameshow enters its exciting prizegiving stage as the first riddle is popped onto Bother’s Prize Table. WHAT COULD IT BE? Can you work it out? Second one tomorrow night.

Meanwhile, The X Factor is confirmed to begin on August 21st, that means we’re probably only about eight weeks away from Fantasy X Factor starting for the year. Exciting! But not for my bank manager!

Board of Excitement 8th-14th August 2010

By | August 8, 2010

This is the week of internet games, amongst other things:

  • The Weakest Link (5:15pm all week, BBC1) – ten years old this week, and a number of special repeats to mark the occasion. Thankfully, the one from ten years ago where I was a contestant is not one of them, instead we have the very first edition on Monday followed by celebrity lookalikes, hairdressers, alternative world cups and (always good for a laugh) drag queens on Friday.
  • Pinpoint (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, iTunes/GSN) – the second podcast gameshow from Alex Davis off of Buzzerblog’s 5Hole Productions, this is a survey based quiz hosted by Buzzerblog contributor Bob “Cafe” Hagh and, correct me if I’m wrong Alex, music by Little Timmy Halbert, Young Musician of the Year 2001? Double Cross had issues, but it was certainly a good try and well produced. The top prize for this is 25,000 Game Show Network Oodles, which by the way they make it sound sounds like a very exciting prize until you realise what 25k Oodles actually buys you. Still, it’s nice to see talent being given a chance so I wish it and them best of luck. Here is the iTunes link.
  • 321 Ways To Win a Gameshow (nightly, Bother’s Bar) – we have a winner and it’s The Internet’s Tom Scott, star of Only Connect and Treasure Hunt. That will be good practice for the difficult and highbrow riddles awaiting him on Bother’s Prize Table where he could win something nice, naff, or a ceramic bin. And you get to help him by chipping in with your ideas of what the prizes may be!
  • Mantracker (weekdaily at 10am, 1pm 6pm, omnibus Saturday from 2pm) – it’s the Interceptor your Dad would like.

Saturday Night Alright For Writing: 7th August 2010

By | August 7, 2010

I don’t think I bothered watching anything last Saturday night, I couldn’t even be bothered with 101 Ways…, too much effort, not enough reward. But for those who want to talk about it:

  • 19:20pm BBC1 101 Ways To Leave a Gameslow
  • 19:35pm ITV1 Odd One In
  • 20:20pm BBC1 Tonight’s the Night
  • 20:20pm ITV1 Magic Numbers

Better than all that, Extreme have a Mantracker marathon all afternoon – why not watch that then turn off your TV set and do something less boring instead? WHY DON’T YOU?
