Show discussion: Fort Boyard 2010 Ep 5

By | August 7, 2010

Well, it looks like last week’s audience was under two million, so regrtefully it looks like this is going to be the last series of Fort Boyard on French television for the moment. Still, twenty years is a very decent innings. And there are still three weeks of this season left. And even better, it looks like they’re bothering to update the website again. Which is nice.

Remember, Remember the 7th of August

Don’t forget you have until tomorrow evening to enter 321 Ways to Win a Gameshow. Why not try and predict which question I regret writing?

Meanwhile, three lines of story that sounds intriguing regarding Perfection. The way it’s worded makes it sound a bit like the My Little Genius fiasco from a little while ago, but without the details that’s extreme extrapolation. Does anyone from 12 Yard want to clarify? Edit: Right, it looks like some contestants could see information in a monitor that should have been shielded. Amazing. 26 of 30 episodes to be refilmed – effectively two series for the price of one.

Product Placement: The Cube Electronic Game

By | August 5, 2010

Thanks to guest reviewer Kieran Joseph Jupe for the following:

  • The game stays true to its TV counterpart, which, is in fact, fantastic, and better still, the game boasts ’50 Electronic and Physical games’, most of which lifted straight from the show with the exception of an odd few for that have been invented (hopefully by the CUBE staff) for use with the items supplied. But what are these items? Well, in total, there is 129 individual pieces, but the most important are obviously, the 1x Electronic Game Device, the 1x ‘Reducer’ and most importantly… the actual game cards, and the ominous (and mini) CUBE itself.
  • So, how does it work, basically, you receive 9 LIFE tokens, one SIMPLIFY token and one TRIAL RUN (which fans of the show will know can only be used after the first game is complete) token. Player(s) then pick a Challenge Card from the pile according to the level (Pile A is for £1K to £10K and B is for £20K plus) but for the sake of useful-ness each card is double sided for more games in one… game… Of course, some games will be played on the actual Electronic Device (which, when turned on plays the seriously serious *shortened* version of the theme tune) but some actual require getting up and moving around!
  • For example, one time I played it, I had to play a game called HORIZONTAL, which requires you to… using a tube (that was built in a certain way before the game) place the ball through the hole in the center, pick it up with only your finger and thumb, stand up, rotate 360 degrees, sit down, and place the tube back onto the cube… I done it first go, however some games, are not so easy. One actually took all 8 lives I had remaining off me… after the use of the TRIAL RUN and the SIMPLIFY… and all it was involved throwing a ball into the cube.
  • Of course, it says 2-6 players on the box, but I easily can play it on my own, I don’t cheat much. But overall, for £25, it is a whole lot of fun for the family, besides, it’s probably the only time I can say… ‘It’s only throwing a ball into a box, Nan, but is it easier… in the CUBE?’ By the way, the answer to that is NO… not even with the Reducer off.

So there we are. I’m anticipating questions here, and I’m sure Kieran will answer them.

It’s slightly rippled with a flat underside.

No hang on, that’s Boost isn’t it? Never mind.

The Internet’s famous Iain Weaver has bought to our attention a Canadian show called Mantracker, apparently a bit like Interceptor but with Canadians on hourseback. They’re showing it on the Extreme Sports Channel at 10am, 1pm and 6pm (two are probably repeats), it sounds as though it might be interesting. You can find Extreme Sports on 527 on Virgin Media or Sky on 419. And Channel 72 on DigiTurk.

Extreme Sports also has a show called M1 Challenge, which disappointingly is not an extreme footrace up and down England’s premier motorway, but some mixed martial-arts thing.

By popular demand, here’s the feature on Tokyo Friend Park II I put up last year.

Looking through the new Argos catalogue, I note that there’s a The Cube electronic game out. Anyone seen it in action?
