Board of Excitement 9-15th May 2010

By | May 9, 2010

Well it basically boils down to:

  • The Amazing Race (Sunday, CBS) – it’s the final! We’re backing Team Cowboy.
  • Survivor (Thursday, CBS) – you couldn’t script this season better really, but I will be honest and suggest I’m looking forward to a Russell comeuppance moment. Might it happen this week? Go Team Pavarti!

Wow.

It’s Schlag den Raab!

By | May 8, 2010

schlagdenraab1Tonight at 7:15 UK/8:15 German time on ProSieben (and hopefully naughty streaming) it’s Schlag den Raab, where a member of the public attempts to defeat Stefan Raab over a series of fifteen games live for €500,000.

Tonight look forward to no mountain biking, and probably a competitive version of that game with a ball on a bit of string attached to a cup, or something.

In other news, Michael Barrymore, Pat Sharp, Jenny Powell and Anthea Redfern are doing a special gameshow host’s edition of Come Dine With Me, set to be shown later in the month. Amazing.

I’m going to have a new feature for you tomorrow.

The Cube vs Only Connect

By | May 7, 2010

What is 2010’s highest new entry going to be in the new all-time list? Are we going to be plunged into constitutional CRISIS?

PLACE BETS NOW!

Also: Louise Noel from Show Me the Money is now a primary school teacher. Who knew? Good stuff.

Voting over

Thanks for all your votes! It’ll take a little while for the returning officer to declare, so expect the write-up within the next fortnight.

The Million Pound Drip Feed

By | May 6, 2010

Keep an eye out on Twitter, the format details for The Million Pound Drop seem to be being slowly revealed.

It’s not sounding brilliant so far to be honest. Eight questions and some trapdoors.

It’s falling for the trap of suggesting that the money’s theirs at the the start, except it isn’t really – it’s not really a gamble if you’re forced to do it. It is not like you can just walk away with the million that you are apparently given before the first question is asked. It looks like jeopardy, but it isn’t jeopardy.

Also, (certainly up until a few years ago at least), a large number of people still thought Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? was live, despite the fact it’s only been done once. So the other USP doesn’t really cut it as a USP.

Edit: Oh wow, they can spread the money between trapdoors. So basically it’s exactly like Succes Verzekerd, then.

It’s VE Day

ballot-box-763573i.e. Vote in an Election Day.

Bother’s Bar normally takes a strong editorial stance to avoid “issues” – if you want to know about proper news and disasters, go to a proper news site or a properly well-researched blog. It is not my job to preach to you outside the gameshow arena, where what I say is pretty much gospel let’s be honest.

However, if you can vote in the proper general election in the UK then you really probably should. Then, citizen, you can enjoy your sixteen hours of David Dimbleby (IT IS SORT OF LIKE A GAMESHOW) guilt free knowing that, well, at least you tried.

And once you’ve voted for the future of the country, you should then turn your attentions to the Gameshow General Election and decide on the future of television. Turnout has been a little bit lower than usual so far, so your votes will carry a greater weight. The ballot boxes will be closing at 10pm BST.

Enjoy the spectacle, celebrate or commiserate, and I’ll be back with possibly a new feature at the weekend. Or at least a box for Schlag den Raab.

Edit: Forgot to mention Mad Cap’n Tom, off of Only Connect. Sorry Mad Cap’n Tom. In the unlikely event of you living in Wesrtminster…
