Looks like GamesMaster is still happening, then

By | September 2, 2021

Forwarded to me on Twitter last night:

Nothing says videogaming in 2021 than the word “newb”!

Wow, Futurenet is still a thing, old school. Regardless of the rights and many wrongs of bringing back GamesMaster as a TV brand in the year 2021, if indeed this is the case, can we at least hope they will show the challenges in such a way the viewer can follow? Go 8 Bit got this spectacularly wrong quite a lot of the time – irritating cut aways, shrinking the screens to 60% real estate, not telling us where we should be looking to see who’s winning, really we should be doing it to at least the same standard Hewland was managing almost thirty years ago.

Sky One is dead

By | September 1, 2021

Sorry, the Bar was down yesterday but it’s back now whether you like it or not. Anyway, it was Sky One’s last day yesterday so let us celebrate its passing with one of its best ever shows, the Masked Singer beating, Montreux winning Wild Things, of which this appears to be the only full ep on Youtube. It’s from series 3 which changed the format a little bit.

It’s the BB Schlag den Star Casual Watchalong 28/9/21!

By | August 28, 2021

From 7:15pm (UK) / 8:15pm (Europe)
On the Bother’s Bar Discord

That’s right! We’re no longer bothering to stream them to Youtube because a) only about three people watched and b) we can sort out some “naughty” streaming solution on the Discord, so why not join us for many hours of casual watchalong fun this evening as two celebs battle it out for Elton’s €100,000 briefcase across fifteen mystery events that we’ll try and work out as the evening progresses.

There’s usually some extra-curricular quizzing and gossip throughout the night as well, feel free to put yourself on mute if you just want our background chatter. It’s actress and TV host “Big Brain” Evelyn Burdecki vs actress and model Sophia Thomalla. “The two opponents receive musical support from Felix Jaehn x Robin Schulz with “I got a feeling” and from Clueso x Andreas Bourani “Welcome back”,” it says here.

We’ll be on likely until around midnight, so do come and join us.

Mikebeth

By | August 27, 2021

Shakespeare’s Macbeth, from Wikipedia:

A brave Scottish general named Macbeth receives a prophecy from a trio of witches that one day he will become King of Scotland. Consumed by ambition and spurred to action by his wife, Macbeth murders King Duncan and takes the Scottish throne for himself. He is then wracked with guilt and paranoia. Forced to commit more and more murders to protect himself from enmity and suspicion, he soon becomes a tyrannical ruler. The bloodbath and consequent civil war swiftly take Macbeth and Lady Macbeth into the realms of madness and death.

Macbeth – Wikipedia

Now isn’t this basically the olden days story of Mike Richards getting and losing the Jeopardy job? Someone make this.

I know this post is “a bit NPR”, so feel free to read it with some inoffensive plinky-plonk music in the background.

Now YOU can take your trousers off in public

By | August 25, 2021

Before this morning’s “feature” “story”, a quick reminder that it’s Schlag den Star on Saturday, we’ll be watching along on our Discord as is the new normal so do come and join us.

Anyway.

It’s kind of quite surprising that some sort of The Cube Live Experience hasn’t already happened, although I also figure you’d probably need more than one in one location to make money. The official site promises four people seven games, although I don’t know if it will keep the nine lives thing from the original (it’d be pretty rum to pay your £50 or whatever(*) and then get something like Perimeter game one). Presumably the games on offer won’t need that much setting up and will mainly use the floor screen – I’m not sure I can see someone sweeping up 200 ping pong balls after every go being a massive success – but that feels a bit limiting. So lots of questions, we look forward to seeing the answers.

(*) I know I normally do a £50 for around 60 minutes “joke” for these live experiences, but the truth is I’ve got no idea how much this will cost as the prices aren’t up yet and it could be anything from £10 – £70 per person and anything from 15 minutes to 90 from the information that’s out there.

The Wheel and That

By | August 24, 2021

Mickey McIntyre, as nobody calls him, has been lined up for US Michael McIntyre’s The Wheel on NBC which seems fair enough, but it remains difficult to work out how they’re going to edit sixty minutes of Celebrity Quiz Arsing About down to forty and keep the fun bits in, in a six-act structure. All the suggestions I’ve seen so far (fewer celebs! Just one question per category!) I basically hate, maybe I just don’t like change now I’m old, we’ll see. Light Entertainment rarely travels, it rarely even works here these days, so it will be interesting to see how it does.

Taskmaster is recording WITH AN AUDIENCE 16th-22nd September at Pinewood. This presumably is the series after the next one which is starting soon. It also suggests they’re being made further in advance of broadcast which I’m not sure is entirely a good thing, it’s a long time to keep a bunch of names secret at least. Tickets SRO anyway.

Also filming end of September with tickets SRO the much anticipated/ill-fated Moneyball at MediaCity.

Also good luck for Sitting On A Fortune filming from today, I’ve been furnished with details, to be honest it sounds a bit more like that “stay out of the red” bit from The National Lottery Jet Set than Millionaire Hot Seat, so we’ll see.
