The new episode of Fifty 50 is out! This week Lewis Murphy discusses Beat the Pack and Countdown with Dave Mattingly, who is also the contestant on the most jawdropping game of 21 Questions Wrong yet (at least I assume that’s on there, I’m writing this without having listened to it first):

IN THE MEANTIME:

  • The final reveal subbed episode of Wie is De Mol? is up. Links to all the episodes and our discussion is currently linked to up in the masthead, although it will get archived in the Specials Board on Friday.
  • We had a quick look at new Dutch quiz Weet ik Veel yesterday (you can watch here), it’s a student quiz with Linda de Mol that celebrities compete in and you play along with an app. It’s basically Test the Nation with the Wonderwall as an end game. Vierkante O dissects it here, it got great numbers for its first ep and the app crashed.
  • Daniel Peake is on The Common Denominator this afternoon, C4 at 3:30pm.
  • It’s the Only Connect Comic Relief Special tonight! BBC4 8:30pm. Guests are Charlie Higson, Rufus Hound, Susan Greenfield, David Mitchell, Bill Turnbull and Rosie Boycott.

Things that are on at the weekend

Well I say “weekend”, I mean “this evening”.

  • Takeshi’s Castle Rebooted: Dick and Dom commentate over new unseen Takeshi’s Castle footage also featuring newly filmed bits with General Tani/Lee, who doesn’t appear to have aged much in 25 years making him the Japanese Neil Buchanan. (Challenge, 10pm)
  • 5 Gegen Jauch Celebrity Special: Actually I was a bit disappointed Cash Crash isn’t on because I really quite enjoyed it last week. Anyway regular punter James keeps banging on about this so I will endeavour to watch it properly this evening. It starts 7:15 UK time, but you’ll need to use some dark magic as it’s on Germany’s RTL.
  • The Mole was revealed on Dutch TV last night. We’re waiting for the English subbed version likely out on Sunday. You can watch the entire series with English subtitles and discuss the show here.
  • It’s the last in the series of Bother’s Bar favourite Avanti un Altro on Italy’s Canale 5 on Sunday. It’s been running every day since September.
  • This Sunday at 8pm Mix It Up Real Good returns with a game of Stud Hi/Lo. It’s free and open to anyone. So come and join us!

Lewis Murphy IS BACK! with a new computer, and that means a new episode of the Internet’s premier gameshow chat podcast. And now he has SOUND EFFECTS (effect) and a THEME TUNE. This week he chats with gameshow know-it-all Travis Penery and TV’s Andrew “Keshihead” Sullivan about things that have happened since the last episode went out.

So I went and saw Pointless being filmed today, the first of series seven (I think) (Apparently not, thanks Dan H) at the new digs at Elstree.

  • Basically nothing’s changed, so the apparently very exciting new endgame is being saved for another series. Still if you’re going to waste my time and money, at least the show is still entertaining to go and see.
  • Basically look out for lots of jokes and references to moving to Elstree in the first episode (specifically things that you’re nearer to now they’ve moved), and they’re not shy about pointing out to viewers that although nothing looks like its changed actually it has and it’s been months since the previous episode had been recorded. OR it will probably all get edited out.
  • The big issue is that there appeared to be a massive static problem, and Xander was frequently audibly yelping when leaning on his monitor. I don’t think there’s been a format where a host tries to host whilst getting regular electric shocks, so that’s something for the future.
  • Mark Olver did the warm up. I know he’s been around a lot and regularly does Deal or No Deal, but this is the first time our paths crossed. He was good! He’s Bristolian and shouts at people.
  • This isn’t the first time I’ve been to Elstree, but the last time was for The Exit List which had a weird set-up. The Elstree audience holding area is a bit swanky isn’t it? Much better than the Television Centre’s, in that there are a proper amount of seats and tables. And the bar sold a Snickers and a can of Coke for £1.60, which is less than it costs in my work canteen.
  • It seemed to take an age to get everybody into the studio, although I can’t tell whether that’s a feature of the studio or because there was a coach load of old people come to watch and I was towards the back.
  • I award Elstree 8/10.

btpackJake Humphrey finally gets to host a proper quiz on BBC1, in this one contestants try and get questions right before the pack does.

We went and saw an episode being filmed, we thought it was a decent idea although the questions aren’t much fun and the game feels stingier than most, but you never know how it will edit and they won’t need to show them in filming order so there will probably be a decent win today.
