Festive fun

By | December 12, 2015

It is LITERALLY almost Christmas, and as has become a tradition I’ve put together another set of 21 Questions Wrong HOTSEAT for you to “do” round the christmas dinner table if you’re that way inclined. A bit less Christmassy this year, and my annual reminder that I really hate question writing.

And here it is. Enjoy.

Meanwhile thanks to Bumdidlyumptious for uploading The Genius: Side Story, a segment from Sangmin and Dongmin’s BangShiPop. I’m linking to this not being in a position to have watched it yet but likely to be of interest. Although…

Congrats Wild Things!

By | December 9, 2015

Wooh!

Great decision, well done to Friend Of The Bar Gary Monaghan and the rest of the crew.

Wild Things is one of my fave shows of the year and features my favourite endgame of the year, which managed to be both very silly and incredibly tense. Here is our show discussion page on the first series, the show returns to Sky One in the new year.

Last year Pointless won, a show we got on board with quickly. This year Wild Things wins, a show we got on board with quickly. If I owned and didn’t rent I’d be remortgaging to put a bet on Tipping Point next year *taps nose*.

Also congratulations to The 3rd Degree (Pozzitive for Radio 4) which won best radio gameshow, but also one that I don’t know much about.

Full list of winners.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas on ITV2

By | December 8, 2015

I still think it’s a bit early for Christmas specials by about a week but if you like me are part of that all important 18-35 demo (just, in my case) then you have all these to look forward to on ITV2 this week:

  • Through the Christmas Keyhole – Keith Lemon is joined by Jonathan Ross, Louis Walsh and Kym Marsh. Wednesday 9pm.
  • Release the Hounds: Jingle Hell 2 – The Jingle Hell special last year with Diversity was one of the funniest things I saw all year, this time three people from ITV2’s Weekender series which I’ve never heard of because I’m 34 take on scary challenges whilst Reggie Yates laughs at them from a van. Wednesday 10pm (also repeated after Celebrity Juice on Thursday)
  • Celebrity Juice Christmas Special – I know you probably expect me to be better than Celebrity Juice but it’s the only show on TV right now that reliably makes me laugh quite hard so try harder everybody else. Joining Keith, Holly and Gino are Jay McGuinness, Louise Redknapp, Michelle Keegan and Jimmy Carr.

And you can even watch them if you’re outside the demo but there might be SWEARING.

There’s You’ve Been Framed at Christmas on Friday but that’s not in our remit. All these shows will doubtlessly be repeated endlessly over the coming weeks.

In other interesting news there’s a second series of The Almost Impossible Gameshow coming to ITV2 in January. I suspect they filmed two series back to back and split them up as that’s an odd schedule otherwise. Still though, new games are promised. The first series was a mixed bag – didn’t love it initially but gradually came round to its (read: The Rubberbandits) way of thinking, although still think it needed more ideas as I get bored of this sort of thing easily.

Ticketing update

By | December 6, 2015

Everything’s winding down for the year and we’re all off to endless amounts of Christmas parties because we’re so popular and that, as such our policy of “try and do a post within three days of the last one” will probably go to pot a bit over the next month as the well runs a bit dry (although don’t forget we have the last ever Schlag den Raab to look forward to on the 19th December and the Poll of 2015 opening in the new year – start thinking about your votes!).

Still, here are some things you can get tickets to in the near future if you’re that way inclined:

  • Get in quick, The Big Quiz: Coronation Street vs Emmerdale returns with Stephen Mulhern filming in Manchester tomorrow night. Details Lost in TV.
  • New panel game Insert Name Here with Sue Perkins, Richard Osman and Josh Widdicombe films 21st and 22nd December and mid-January at Pinewood because they hate you. Details at SRO.
  • The Big Fat Quiz of the Year with Jimmy Carr plus big name celebrity guests (probably Jonathan Ross) films at ITV Towers the 14th December. Details SRO.
  • Big Star’s Little Star for Text Santa films on the morning of Friday the 18th (for putting together for that evening, presumably) at ITV Towers. Details Applause Store.
  • Good news! Ratings behemoth Play to the Whistle returns for a second run, episodes tape variously in January at the Fountain in Wembley. Details Applause Store.
  • Not a gameshow but possibly of interest, The TV That Made Me with Brian Conley is returning for a second run and films 18th to 25th of January in Middlesex. Details on SRO.
  • International hypnotism sensation You’re Back In The Room films its second series in mid-late January. A fun recording, but a surprisingly lengthy one, details at Lost in TV.
  • Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway is filming soon, details Applause Store. The big news is that the episode on April 2nd is going to come live from a P & O ferry, end of series competition winners presumably.

Korean News

It looks like the geniuses behind The Genius are making a new show called Code.

According to multiple industry insiders on Thursday, the show will air on JTBC and involves celebrities competing with each other to solve quizzes.

This link from Bumdidlyumtious’ Twitter when translated suggests this is may well be a follow up to a semi-regular show that aired last year called Box, which sounds as though it’s a escape-room concept as a long-form reality show (i.e. the set has got a bed in it), if anyone knows where to see a copy do let us know. Bump didn’t sound too enamoured with it. Edit: It’s not escape-room-esque in the slightest.

In other news Sangmin and Dongmin are returning in a show called BangShiPop where they get to produce any sort of show they want. Here is a trailer which features other familiar faces:

The Crystal Maze live experience thing tickets go on sale to the general public today

By | December 1, 2015

Here’s the official site. And you might want to keep your eye on their Twitter. People who backed it on IndieGoGo should have been able to pick dates yesterday.

It’s in a secret location in Kings Cross and the launch date is March 15th. You should be able to book for the first six months of opening in the first instance.

I’m going in April, I’m mainly hoping it doesn’t ruin my childhood.

Edit: Here’s the official SeeTickets link – fair to say it’s not cheap –  £60 (£50 off peak) for an individual ticket, £420/£500 for a full team of eight. The experience is set to last around 90 minutes.
