Weekend Round-up

By | June 9, 2012

It’s the weekend!

  • Lost in TV looking for contestants for My Man Can, must be avaliable for filming in September. Here’s the logo, evidently they’ve dropped the poker chip element so it looks like there are some format changes coming. Civil partners are invited to apply also, which is nicely progressive.
  • The All New Skill Based Red or Black starts filming this weekend at Elstree – if you’re going we would very much like to hear your thoughts on a) what has changed and b) what you think. According to The Sun the roulette wheel has gone to be replaced by The Vortex. a skillful game of predicting how long is takes a skillful ball to fall down a skillful funnel by the sounds of it.
  • The Million Pound Drapp is basically quite good (although it does seem to crash a lot) but I’m waiting until trying it out with the live shows next week before writing a full review.
  • Redneck Island hosted by Stone Cold Steve Austin premieres tonight on CMT in the US. I have to watch at least one episode of this, it sounds as though it will be hysterical.
  • AND DON’T FORGET at 7:30pm on Sunday it’s the Bother Series of Poker Super Stack Super Final. It costs £22 to enter and is open to anyone who wants to play even if they can’t win the league (there could be hundreds on the table tomorrow), although you need to become a member of the Bother’s Bar Poker Club first (that bit’s free) – don’t delay, register today, because hundreds of pounds and these EXCITING TROPHIES will be given out to people:

All New Que Le Meilleur Gagne!

By | June 8, 2012

Actually, this looks rather exciting:

Le retour de “Que le meilleur gagne” le 12 juin… by puremedias

If you don’t know, QLMG (May the best man win, basically) was the very popular French version of Everybody’s Equal (aka Whittle). And now its back with original host Nagui! It runs weeknightly from this coming Tuesday (for whatever reason) and offers a €20,000 top prize.

And if you don’t remember Everybody’s Equal, it’s Massively Multiplayer Who Wants to Be A Millionaire except you get the multiple choice questions first to determine a winner (one wrong, you’re gone) who wins one half of a cash prize and it finishes with a fastest finger first question which all the losers play as well and if the winner doesn’t win then the money is split between all the losers who got the question right. It was fun.

Love is in the air

Just a heads up, US Take Me Out and The Choice begin on Thursday night on FOX. One is likely to be better than the other.

Take Me Out is a carbon copy of the UK show right down to the catchphrases, Buzzerblog are suggesting.

In other news, The Million Pound Drop has an app out for iOS (Android to come). I’ll give it the once over over the weekend.

Well it would be remiss not to point out that Big Brother 2012 begins Tuesday night on Five (Auditions show 8pm, Launch show 9pm, Bit On The Side 10:45pm). The excitement level is basically non-existant as 10+ non-entities go into a house, and in a few months time one non-entity comes out with a large cheque. And then some more non-entities do it again for a shorter time, only this time they are celebrities!

And yet with little expectations I’ve got a gut feeling this might be quite a fun series. Nothing to back it up, and I probably won’t even watch it much past launch night, just a hunch that some interesting things might happen. Given that they’ve basically thrown some of the key concepts out of the window in the last few years, anything could happen.

One of the housemates will be decided by the viewers, Holy Moly’s Jamie East has selected three “wildcards” everyone will get to vote on tomorrow night. Exciting.

If its anything like last year, I’ll probably end up watching Bit On The Side more than the main show itself. To say it’s a bit crap is putting it mildly, but it’s got good hosts in Emma, Alice and Jamie, punk spirit and makes me laugh sometimes, and it’s usually on at the sort of time when there’s not much else on. And we like it when Pete Burns starts shouting at people and Jamie does his phone in.

Actually not a bad time for entertaining reality games, Amazing Race Australia has returned triumphantly and we’re also very much enjoying English translations of Dutch Mole.

The Queen of Diamonds

It’s the The Voice final tonight on BBC1 at 7:20pm, so that’s exciting isn’t it? There is also a new episode of The Cube on at 8pm on ITV1

In other news, tomorrow is the grand final of Mix It Up Real Good – who will take the trophy after the big 8-game mix final? And even if you can’t win, you can still come and play for fun, 8pm on Pokerstars – make sure you’ve joined the Bother’s Bar Poker Club.

Next Sunday is the big Bother Series of Poker Grand Final, decided by a thrilling £22 entry superstack tournament – together with the league prizes being decided there will be hundreds of pounds flying around the table and YOU can try and grab a load even if you’ve never played a league game before. This is a 7:30pm start and you can register for it right now – in fact you’re positively encouraged to in case you forget the early start time and turn up too late. Again, make sure you’re signed up to Bother’s Bar’s Poker Club to play.

Have a good Jubilee weekend everyone!
