Now YOU can take your trousers off in public

By | August 25, 2021

Before this morning’s “feature” “story”, a quick reminder that it’s Schlag den Star on Saturday, we’ll be watching along on our Discord as is the new normal so do come and join us.

Anyway.

It’s kind of quite surprising that some sort of The Cube Live Experience hasn’t already happened, although I also figure you’d probably need more than one in one location to make money. The official site promises four people seven games, although I don’t know if it will keep the nine lives thing from the original (it’d be pretty rum to pay your £50 or whatever(*) and then get something like Perimeter game one). Presumably the games on offer won’t need that much setting up and will mainly use the floor screen – I’m not sure I can see someone sweeping up 200 ping pong balls after every go being a massive success – but that feels a bit limiting. So lots of questions, we look forward to seeing the answers.

(*) I know I normally do a £50 for around 60 minutes “joke” for these live experiences, but the truth is I’ve got no idea how much this will cost as the prices aren’t up yet and it could be anything from £10 – £70 per person and anything from 15 minutes to 90 from the information that’s out there.

The Wheel and That

By | August 24, 2021

Mickey McIntyre, as nobody calls him, has been lined up for US Michael McIntyre’s The Wheel on NBC which seems fair enough, but it remains difficult to work out how they’re going to edit sixty minutes of Celebrity Quiz Arsing About down to forty and keep the fun bits in, in a six-act structure. All the suggestions I’ve seen so far (fewer celebs! Just one question per category!) I basically hate, maybe I just don’t like change now I’m old, we’ll see. Light Entertainment rarely travels, it rarely even works here these days, so it will be interesting to see how it does.

Taskmaster is recording WITH AN AUDIENCE 16th-22nd September at Pinewood. This presumably is the series after the next one which is starting soon. It also suggests they’re being made further in advance of broadcast which I’m not sure is entirely a good thing, it’s a long time to keep a bunch of names secret at least. Tickets SRO anyway.

Also filming end of September with tickets SRO the much anticipated/ill-fated Moneyball at MediaCity.

Also good luck for Sitting On A Fortune filming from today, I’ve been furnished with details, to be honest it sounds a bit more like that “stay out of the red” bit from The National Lottery Jet Set than Millionaire Hot Seat, so we’ll see.

Edit: Literally seconds after posting:

Bother’s Bar’s RETRO Game Night

By | August 22, 2021

Sunday night, 8pm-10:30pm,
Here and on Youtube

Come with me into my time machine as we travel all-lll-lll-lll the way back through the mists of time, way back to 2014 (and 2015) – a very different era. Obama was president and Trivia Murder Party hadn’t been invented yet.

This is the setting for the 23rd Bother’s Bar Game Night – basically we’re playing old Jackbox games, all to set-up tonight’s Arbitrary Final that’s been co-devised by Duran Duran’s very own Simon Le Bon. Our panellists will be battling it out for glory and a spot in the Jackbox 8 Champion of Champions in October (TBC).

The games might be older, but Team Audience will still be there to take part and judge, and a representative will be required for a game of Bomb Corp. AND tonight’s Final.

The Live stream will appear here, but we advise watching it on the Youtube page for lower latency and so you can join the chat.

So why-y-y-y-y don’t you join us?

This Sunday! 8pm! It’s the latest edition of Bother’s Bar’s Game Night, but this is a special RETRO Game Night where we’ll be playing games from the early Jackboxes. Lie Swatter! Bomb Corp! Drawful 1! Just SOME of the games on offer. As ever, watch and play along as part of Team Audience, however I still have spaces on the panel if you’d like to guarantee a piece of the action. Make sure you’ve got a Discord, a microphone and get in touch ASAP.

It’s all building up to the BIG Arbitrary Final, co-designed by the BIG haired Simon Le Bon! I am so excited about this “collab”, as far as I’m aware it’s his first foray into gameshow design and I have to say, after I tweaked it a bit, it might be a bit of a winner. He is hungry for success. Like the wolf in fact.

We’ll be broadcasting LIVE on Sunday night from 8pm UK until about 10:30pm – may in fact be slightly earlier as the older games are a bit quicker. Hope to see you then!

Sean Lock

Very sad to hear about the death of comedian Sean Lock to cancer, one of the funniest people Channel 4 gave time to. There will definitely be a big hole in the 8 Out of 10 Cats troupe.
