Stumbled on a Korean game show/reality show format called “The Genius” or “Genius Game”; think the viewership here may enjoy it. It’s a bunch of logical/social challenge games (such as a zombie game or wagering on a virtual horse race with a fixed outcome), crossed with an elimination format. A YouTube user has done subtitles for the show:
Excellent find. This is basically the Liar Game game show I’ve been waiting for. I’m quite fond of the Garnets, and I want a number of them just to stick on shelves and marvel at for hours.
Speaking of Liar Game, I think a lot of you guys would find it fairly enjoyable. It’s got all sorts of complex mind games and mind-bending strategies, not to mention excellent character development and amusingly stretchy faces.
Really interesting, both the Korean show and the Liar Game. You can find one of the LG films with English subtitles (you need to turn them on) here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lv-SzdtK18Q
It’s a really interesting watch, if a bit of a mind bender. I’m not sure all of the solutions are watertight but hey – game theory as a 2-hour movie… gotta love Japan!
Seems the live action TV series is online too with subs, but – excepting the ‘in medias res’ beginning sequence – the film’s pretty stand-alone.
Kamen Duck
I’d recommend the manga over either of them. The TV show felt like it was kinda rushing through everything to fit a massive amount of plot into a single season.
That, and Nao goes through pretty much no development in the TV series.
I agree, the Liar Game manga is pretty good when it comes to the games, especially later on in the series (17 Card poker is pretty interesting I thought- that’s in about Chapter 70). The irregular publishing of the series is kinda awkward though…
After looking through the episodes, I think that Genius series is really good- most of the games are really thought out, and there are some unique strategies the contestants use (episode 7 especially- don’t know if the producers thought of what one player eventually figured out). Of course, this is one of those shows that we’ll wish would be done in an English-language version but will never happen…
Can I deduct that series 9 starts off somewhere in the Winter/early Spring?
(I’m FYI no prodco exec, just a curious question)
Back mid-September.
That’s series 8. I think Delano is referring to whatever future series this is casting for.
waiting for Avanti Un Altro!…

I will endeavour to watch these at some point in the next few days, thanks.

Man, this stuff is immense. Episodes 4-5 of the TV series are da bomb. Start the journey here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IBr5QrGiaU
