Fifty50 Fifty (and the Pointless app is out)

By | February 24, 2014

In the landmark Fifty 50 episode 50, Lewis Murphy goes behind the scenes of his podcast and has a chat about Superstar Dogs.

Also the Pointless app that Richard Osman said would never happen is in fact out RIGHT NOW for £1.49 on the iOS store. That’s the same price as The Chase, but is it as good? Find out in due course. Android version to follow.

Show Discussion: Revenge of the Egghead

CJ de Mooi is back, BACK, BACK! In his own Eggheads spin-off with Jeremy Vine, where a team of five take him on to win thousands of pounds. They are already promising a de Mooi/Vine bromance.

This will either be hilarious, or tries too hard to be hilarious and comes across as embarrassing. Who knows which it will be?

We actually don’t know much about the format although there will inevitably be comparisons made to The Chase. De Mooi certainly seems like the Egghead able to play a villain most convincingly.

Interestingly (or not) it looks like there’s a new Egghead coming when the main series returns.

Do A Thing And Win Some Points

Yeah, we’ve been doing that years before @midnight with Chris Hardwick. Anyway, as a public service now follows a list of shows and pilots in no particular order looking for contestants.

Phew.

The return of PROPER Saturday Night Entertainment

#PROPERsaturdaynightentertainment

Actually quite an interesting evening this evening, so here’s a run down of Things Likely To Be Of Interest To Bar Punters:

  • 6:00 (ITV) – The Cube Celebrity Special – featuring David Haye and Kian Egan. The new series begins proper next week, this is going to be of interest because it’s likely we’ll see the swish new graphics and retwiddled sounds tonight which is awesomely exciting – the graphics for Reflex are pretty cool even if the show is dull as, and Foster/Bolam remain the best in the business right now. I imagine we’ll get some new games as well – and if you’ve got the The Cube app it was updated in the last few days with a new game.
  • 6:15 (C4) – Superstar Dogs – as expected not really doing the business but not without merit.
  • 6:15 (BBC1) – Pointless Celebrities – A repeat, but doubtless will be strong competition for The Cube. On previous form will probably beat it in fact, although The Cube still does decent demos.
  • 7:00 (ITV) – Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway – The boys return, although it seems a bit less hyped than last year. I bet they still won’t be offering the prizes shown during its own ad break, but at least I’m a Celebrity Get Out Of My Ear is coming back as that was genuinely hilarious, tonight with Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford. Hopefully they’ve ditched the duff Supercomputer.
  • 7:00 (BBC1) – The Voice UK – This has been doing well – 8.5m recently, although the buzz feels like it’s died down somewhat since opening week. I think with momentum and stronger lead-in The Voice will edge Ant and Dec in the overnights which would be a reversal of last year.
  • 8:20 (ITV) – Take Me Out – last in the series.
  • 8:30 (BBC1) – Who Dares Wins – Gaby Roslin’s doing the lottery draw. Hurrah!

Lots of interest tonight, intrigued to see how it all plays out.

A massive digest of shows looking for contestants will go up tomorrow morning.

Schlag den ?

By | February 20, 2014

schlagdenbrig2It’s been almost a month since Schlag den Brig became THE internet sensation the world was talking about.

Well plans are afoot for a sequel of sorts which will hopefully be even bigger and more exciting. The question we’re wondering is who do you want to see competing? Here are our current options:

  • Me vs Dan again.
  • Me vs someone else.
  • Dan vs someone else.
  • Me or Dan vs someone else put to a viewer poll, like on telly. That would have to be done in advance as there would only be two sets of props.
  • Two completely different people.

Obviously me and Dan are highly photogenic and we (well, I) have a good internet connection – that second part is rather crucial. We’re just putting feelers out there right now, any decision will be made later.

Show Discussion: Superstar Dogs

It’s that That’s My Dog unofficial reboot we’ve all been waiting for, in the run up to Crufts John Barrowman puts pooches and their owners to the test. Features a “dogstable course”. Might be fun but we’re not expecting much.

This is part of Channel 4’s new afternoon schedule we’ve been discussing here. @OfficialBanker suggesting it’s for three weeks, but then I guess the Winter Paralympics kick in.
