No Fantasy X Factor this year

By | October 5, 2012

Hello Punters. I’ve had several people ask if I’m running Fantasy X Factor this year – I’m afraid the answer is no.

But fans of the Bother Christmas Bonus shouldn’t be too downhearted, I’m pencilling in another game of big money slow mental torture Word Up! for November.

I’m afraid I have no idea when the The Cube video game is actually out as every shop seems to have a different date. Edit: Funbox Interactive suggesting 9th November is the actual real date.

Bob’s Full House begins on Challenge on Saturday 13th at 8pm.

Wetten Dass…? with new host Markus Lanz begins on ZDF tomorrow night. It will be interesting to see what they’ve done with that.

Poker tonight

By | October 4, 2012

Tonight it is the latest installment of Bother’s Bar Poker (hey! It’s not all that long before BotherSOP season returns) and it’s the first EVER Bother’s Bar cash game. There should be hundreds flying round the table, and $20 in your Pokerstars account is all you need to try and grab some.

  • The table will open at 8:30pm on Thursday 4th October. It will be a 9-handed table. You will find it under the ring games tab on your My Home Games page – I will let people know the name of the table on Twitter when it has been created.
  • The blinds will be $0.25/$0.50. The game is No Limit Hold ‘em.
  • The minimum buy-in is $20, the max you can sit down with is $50.
  • It’s going to hopefully be a fun game, but it will also be a decently serious one. As such I’m promising to have $100 behind me as two $50 stacks. I will stay at the table until I’ve played through all my money, 11pm rolls round, or it’s been me and just one other person or fewer for ten minutes. I might even stay longer depending on fun levels. You can rest assured I won’t be soft playing.

I have no idea what is going to happen tonight – how many people will turn up, how long the table will run for (if I’ve still got money at 11pm and if there’s still people wanting to play I’m happy to play on). If loads of people turn up and there’s a decently sized waiting list, I will set up a lower stakes feeder table for people who want it.

Some of you won’t have played at the cash tables before. The main differences are the stakes don’t change throughout the night and as such people tend to play a wider range of hands. A small proportion of each pot is taken out as house fee. Most importantly, the chips in front of you represent actual cash, and you can join (if there’s room) or leave the table at any time (although you can’t leave and come back with less than you took off). You can add chips to make your stack up $50 at any time.

Have fun but play sensibly!

You will need to be a member of the Pokerstars Bother’s Bar Poker Group to play.

Joining the club is easy:

– If you don’t already have it, download the free PokerStars software from www.pokerstars.com

– Open the main poker lobby, then click on the Home Games tab

– Click the ‘Join a Poker Club’ button

– Enter my Club ID number: 466738

– Enter my Invitation Code: onlyconnect

If this is successful we will do it again some time.

Contestant Call

By | October 3, 2012

Friend of the Bar Paul Brassey has the following opportunity for people:

GROUPS OF CONTESTANTS WANTED FOR QUIZ RUN-THROUGH

North One Television are looking for contestants to help us run through a brand new quiz format for a BBC commissioner on MONDAY 5TH NOVEMBER 2012.

We’re looking for teams of four people, consisting of one central contestant and three of their friends. While only the central contestant will answer any questions, their friends will have a crucial role to play, so it’s important that everyone is confident, outgoing and eager to be involved. It’s also vital that the friends are real friends – with a decent idea of the contestant’s character, strengths and weaknesses.

To take part you’ll need to be:

  • §         Aged 18 or over.
  • §         Available from 10:00 to 16:30 on Monday 5th November, and able to make your own way to BBC Television Centre inLondon on that date.
  • §         Lively and outgoing.

The central contestant will also need to be a half-decent quizzer, with a broad general knowledge.

Please note that this is a run-through only, it will not be filmed and no prize money is available. We can, though, reimburse travel expenses within the London area (and will consider reasonable travel expenses for contestants travelling from further afield). Lunch and snacks will also be provided. Contestants selected to take part will be guaranteed an audition for the show proper should it be commissioned.

If you’re interested please send the following information to paul.brassey@northonetv.com by Friday12th October.

  • §         Name of central contestant
  • §         Age of central contestant
  • §         Occupation of central contestant
  • §         Best contact number for central contestant
  • §         Names of central contestant’s three friends
  • §         Details of any previous TV appearances by any member of your group

Please also send a photograph of the central contestant and please confirm that all members of the group are available and willing to take part before getting in touch.

Do me proud, readers.

Also the The Cube video game is out on Friday for Wii, PS3 and 3DS featuring 33 challenges and an EXTREME ZONE. The Wii one is £17.99 on Amazon, the PS3 one is£29.99, the 3DS one is £19.99. There’s also an iOS version already out, and with the updates isn’t a bad alternative.

Fifty 50 Episode 2

By | October 2, 2012

I’m so excited, episode two of amazing gameshow discussion podcast Fifty 50 is out, and you can download it from the show site! Joining Lewis Ogbajoj this week is top Friend of the Bar and low-budget gameshow host and Line Up contestant Daniel Peake!

Jacpot, Baggage and Accumulate! all feature, as well as tangents.

I know the Bar is basically plugging our own and other people’s podcasts at the moment. But there’s not much exciting on! At least Breakaway returns next Monday.
