Poker tonight

By | October 4, 2012

Tonight it is the latest installment of Bother’s Bar Poker (hey! It’s not all that long before BotherSOP season returns) and it’s the first EVER Bother’s Bar cash game. There should be hundreds flying round the table, and $20 in your Pokerstars account is all you need to try and grab some.

  • The table will open at 8:30pm on Thursday 4th October. It will be a 9-handed table. You will find it under the ring games tab on your My Home Games page – I will let people know the name of the table on Twitter when it has been created.
  • The blinds will be $0.25/$0.50. The game is No Limit Hold ‘em.
  • The minimum buy-in is $20, the max you can sit down with is $50.
  • It’s going to hopefully be a fun game, but it will also be a decently serious one. As such I’m promising to have $100 behind me as two $50 stacks. I will stay at the table until I’ve played through all my money, 11pm rolls round, or it’s been me and just one other person or fewer for ten minutes. I might even stay longer depending on fun levels. You can rest assured I won’t be soft playing.

I have no idea what is going to happen tonight – how many people will turn up, how long the table will run for (if I’ve still got money at 11pm and if there’s still people wanting to play I’m happy to play on). If loads of people turn up and there’s a decently sized waiting list, I will set up a lower stakes feeder table for people who want it.

Some of you won’t have played at the cash tables before. The main differences are the stakes don’t change throughout the night and as such people tend to play a wider range of hands. A small proportion of each pot is taken out as house fee. Most importantly, the chips in front of you represent actual cash, and you can join (if there’s room) or leave the table at any time (although you can’t leave and come back with less than you took off). You can add chips to make your stack up $50 at any time.

Have fun but play sensibly!

You will need to be a member of the Pokerstars Bother’s Bar Poker Group to play.

Joining the club is easy:

– If you don’t already have it, download the free PokerStars software from www.pokerstars.com

– Open the main poker lobby, then click on the Home Games tab

– Click the ‘Join a Poker Club’ button

– Enter my Club ID number: 466738

– Enter my Invitation Code: onlyconnect

If this is successful we will do it again some time.

How many turned up, out of curiosity? (And… You do realize you impeccably scheduled for ‘opposite new Red Dwarf,’ right?)

Well, I was a bit apprehensive playing cash but really it was all jolly good fun for the time I could stay.

I don’t know whether people were scared to play because they didn’t know how much it would/could cost their bankroll – maybe others could chime in to confirm/deny?

I’m not normally a cash player, but if I’m in a brick and mortar room and I get knocked out early I’ll take £50 along and go and play on a 50p/£1, £1/£1 table to kill time waiting for friends who are driving. The last time I went I turned £50 into £320 – a great night obviously. That’s why I wanted to try something similar here.

It’s difficult trying to find the sweet spot – I want as many people playing as possible and I’m not sure if that means going for low stakes or higher stakes (I’m not overly convinced $.02/$.04 is likely to be that much fun). Similarly the choice of day (this week basically Tues/Wed/Fri/Sat out for me) – there is likely to be some sort of poll leading up to the next BSOP.

Thanks to everyone who *did* come though, and I’m interested to hear your thoughts.

I’m still up $25. THANKS JAMES!
