Bother’s Twit Phrase

By | February 14, 2012

In lieu of anything interesting, here is a fun game as we’ve not done one for a while. Simply find the expression being expressed by the following:

  • Gulf Stream
  • Humboldt
  • Kuroshio
  • >>Labrador<<

Just say what you see! I’m doing this “on” Twitter as well.

Edit: Jenny Ryan of The Gamblers off of Only Connect got it. It’s a series of oceanic currents, the last one is highlighted, hence “last in the current series”! Well done! Join us next time for some more Bother’s Twit Phrase!

  • There are not enough things for a full on Board of Excitement this week. Pointless begins a new series with all new head-to-head round (5:15pm, Monday BBC1) whilst on Channel 4 it’s 80s love mix week on Deal or No Deal. This week’s The Exit List (8pm, Tuesday, ITV1) is the one I went and saw in November. And a new run of The Bank Job starts on Friday night (9pm, Friday, C4) – I intend on setting up a new show discussion post for it. And Dan Peake promises that episode two of Accumulate will be audible to human ears from the get go when it’s released some point this week. And of course there is Wie is De Mol?!
  • In fun news, Bother’s Bar recommended Scream If You Know The Answer! will be filming its third series in the USA. It’s a Lion and Travel Channel co-production. It is nice that Duncan James can find time from his work in chart-topping comeback kings Blue etc.
  • And don’t forget! We’re pokering tonight at 8pm. The game is Stud Hi/Lo, it’s free, do join.

Valentine’s Special

By | February 12, 2012

This week’s Special Special Weekend Special (I know what you’re thinking, ‘proper content three weekends running? It will never last.’ Well you’re right.) is Let’s Get Married. Enjoy.

I’m hoping to be able to bring you weekend features on last year’s new Hub shows from the US (Game of Life, Scrabble Showdown and so on) in the near but not immediate future.

  • It’s Chris Moyles and Andi Peters playing LIVE! on The Million Pound Drop this evening from 9pm on Channel 4.
  • Bother’s Bar Sunday Night Poker this week is round three of variety poker odyssey Mix It Up Real Good, a ‘fun’ and FREE community game of Stud Hi/Lo at 8pm. Open to anyone regardless of ability or league ambition.
  • We’re hoping to have a feature on Dutch John de Mol format Let’s Get Married over the weekend. It’s basically a reversioning of Honeymoon Quiz/Love Letters/Traumhochzeit/Bob’s Your Uncle/The Shane Richie Experience/Love Me Do, but not apparently as successful.
  • And hey! Why not as we’re in the Valentine’s mood and as it’s largely very funny and it’s already been seen over a million times on Youtube watch how not to win a date on last Saturday’s Take Me Out. No likey…

Accumulate!

By | February 8, 2012

NEWS, and it looks like Bother’s Bar favourite student quiz Accumulate! is back soon, and here’s a teaser trailer for it. Or I think that’s it, for some reason when I play it on my home computer it only shows a quarter of the screen. Anyway.

All new music and graphics have been promised.

In other news, if this is as good as it looks, it is going to be AMAZING (er, also contains spoilers so don’t look at the boards too carefully):

It’s Simon Mayo!

By | February 6, 2012

Well it’s an unexpected one but actually quite a decent choice as he was good on Winning Lines and Confessions, but it looks like Simon Mayo will be hosting Blockbusters. Filming starts this week.

In other news, Alexander Armstrong’s Big Ask begins this evening at 9pm on Dave, it sounds like Series 6 of Pointless with the new head to head round begins next Monday, and it’s another De Mol Monday, and we’re talking about it here.
