Accumulate!

By | February 8, 2012

NEWS, and it looks like Bother’s Bar favourite student quiz Accumulate! is back soon, and here’s a teaser trailer for it. Or I think that’s it, for some reason when I play it on my home computer it only shows a quarter of the screen. Anyway.

All new music and graphics have been promised.

In other news, if this is as good as it looks, it is going to be AMAZING (er, also contains spoilers so don’t look at the boards too carefully):

    Suggestion:

After you’ve played the main Accumulate tournament have two special episodes where loads of teams come along and just play loads of knockout Accumulatower rounds and call it “Tower Night.”

Great stuff. Could have done with seeing a bit more behind the scenes footage, but heyho.

The only bit I managed to pick up in all that was out of the second vt package, the rather quizzical tone “Was that the host?” when asking about Matt Alright.

At least Alright hasn’t hosted a show wearing a what appears to be a Norwiegan deepsea fishermans woolly jumper..

No mention on here (yet, anyway) of Monday’s DOND?

    The Banker certainly cried wolf…

Monday’s Deal: It was quite good. Happy now?

The Banker gives away too much on Twitter I think, especially when it comes to games where they *don’t* win the money.

      Case Study #5…

…Is that on Cube or the Crystal Maze parody sequence, staring Richard O’Brien, in the otherwise forgettable Dungeons and Dragons movie?

      It’s a bit quiet.

Edit: I’ve had to give up, I literally can’t hear it above the cars outside. Sorry Dan 🙁

Accumulate S4: Love the new look and sounds, nice use of handheld camera for the Accumulatower, and somehow the puns are worse than last year.

…If this holds up, it’ll be your best series yet (although the sound balance seemed weird in the first episode)

You know, somehow I never got around to watching any of the previous series of Accumulate! even though I always meant to.

I enjoyed it quite a bit! I love puns and quizzes. And stacking things. And the scoring system really is quite clever.

    Well done, Daniel!

    (“Folk-cabulary” was amazing.)

How in the world does that work?

£15m for the series last time. One 60- and one 30-minute show each night, seven nights, 10.5 hours. If we assign 10 minutes per hour of ads to it – that’s still more than ITV1 are allowed over the whole of primetime let’s not forget – that’s 105 minutes of advertising all series, so 210 30-second ad slots.

To even recoup the £15m, the advertising rate has to average £71,000 per 30 seconds. Not even Coronation Street gets that. Yes, I’ll grant you that Red or Black? probably skews rather younger than Corrie, but enough to draw a higher-than-Corrie ad cost with half the ratings? Are you kidding me?

Still, if this means Simon Cowell is throwing his money away for a second UK series in a failed attempt to get this show sold elsewhere, I’m absolutely delighted 😀

A weekly series is being suggested. This isn’t official yet, but so many people are talking about it I get the feeling it might as well be.

Simon Cowell allegedly once toyed with the idea of squandering £500m just to have Beyoncé on The X Factor. I wouldn’t put ANYTHING past him anymore.

Wooo! Thanks for the positive critical reception (ahem) of Accumulate! 4×01. Something went a bit squiggly when the audio was encoded, that is being fixed as I type right now, and will be fixed online later today. It will be louder and sort out the relatively loud intertitle/ending issues.

There are some groaners this series. You have been warned. I reckon Folk-abulary was a Gary Male special there, but I get a few good-un’s in too…

Thanks for the support, it means a huge amount to us here at RU:ON and for me personally. 😀
