Bother’s Bar Game Night XII: Champignon of Champignons #bbgnxii

By | October 20, 2018

Saturday 20th October, 9pm,
Here and on Youtube

Tonight will be a night of firsts – FIVE new games being played by us for the first time. The first EVER Arbitrary Semi-Final. And, for the first time, we’ll be broadcasting at 30 frames for second, as opposed to the five you had been used to. INCREDIBLE smoothness, INCREDIBLE jeopardy, like a razor with TWELVE blades.

As ever Team Audience are invited to ruin the chances of our seven panellists, taking on the role of the eighth player of each of our games and judging the answers. Chat in the Youtube stream is encouraged and we’ll be reading out the best comments.

To play along with each game, you need to log into jackbox.tv on your secondary devices and add the room codes for the games. Eight players begin but only SIX can make it to the Zeeple Dome, who will win and who will be left behind? Join us at nine!

This was great fun, hope you all enjoyed it.

It’s unlikely Zeeple Dome will join the mix as it’s only six players and there’s no audience participation, but I wanted to show off Jackbox 5 properly so had to find a way to include it tonight. It’s possible it might come back as a 4 vs 4 timed team game at some point in the future, but probably not at the expense of others.

It’s a pity Andrew went for Death Cap early, I thought that was a really obvious one to avoid and would have made the second board funnier, but what can you do?

I’m now using ManyCam to act as a virtual webcam. There’s a bit of fiddliness, but evidently there’s a massive improvement in the frame rate, and the countdown clock is part of that package. There’s only two clock types though, the other being a 24 style digital clock, and it’s a pity I don’t seem to be able to drop the leading 00s, but there we are.

      Thanks for hosting again!

I think Patently Stupid was easily the standout, but I think it’s possibly also the most demanding on the players; it works best if people host their presentations themselves, but that’s also perhaps a bit intimidating, I wavered over the choice for a few moments.

I’ve been wondering if some games might benefit a bit from going for the longer clock option? I’ve felt it on occasion in the past (Monster Seeking Monster, occasionally Quiplash) and I think it might also be true for Patently Stupid given that some folks seemed very tight on time. Then again, that’s more dead air for the audience, so perhaps it’s a tougher call.

Yeah that’s always what I’m afraid of really. It’s a shame I can’t give longer thinking time but keep the voting time the same.

I’m really glad everyone had a proper go at pitching, it’s why I want a panel in the first place.

So the death cap thing.. I misheard your instructions on the game. I didn’t realize there was only one poisonous mushroom in each group. I thought it was more like 30% poisonous. If I had known that, I would have avoided death cap on the first guess.

My thinking was with all the other more innocuous names, I would be guessing at random, so I may as well go for the one that seemed like a bluff.
