RIP Paul Koulak

This probably ought to get a bit more than a straight retweet as a tribute, but there we are:

For me, the highlight of this first ten years of work was this version of Variation No. 1, the tune that played on the old zipline game where they had to swim to a ship and climb the mast:

Like most really long running shows, your favourite period of it is probably the episodes you watched whilst growing up with it as a kid which is always why I have a strong association with the earlier years of the show. I think it has done well to basically keep up with the modern landscape, even if it’s usually on pain of death (and I fear/suspect with the numbers this year is bringing in, we might be approaching one of its danger periods it seems to have every decade). I’m not sure how they’d be able to shake it up this time round though.

How much of his works were used in the UK Channel 5 and Challenge versions?

Sorry to be a pain and ask.

The key game soundtracks weren’t his – not on Channel 5 anyway – they were various bits of library music, but pretty much all of the adventure music was his.

It gets a bit murkier post 2003 (Challenge), I’m not sure what was his and what is “ALP Music”. The keygame music there was the same one used in France that year, though.

        Thanks,

Just that as an avid viewer of the UK versions I wanted to know how much was original French and replacement UK.

Probably worth pointing out that prior to 2003, except for one or two exceptions, they didn’t have music to accompany the key games in France.

Hopefully whoever does the music now can think of some tribute soundtracks in Paul’s memory.
