The Unexpected American Takeover continues

By | September 12, 2023

Password! Jeopardy! Wheel of Fortune! And now Pyramid‘s filming a pilot in Manchester on 25th September, £60k top prize, no word of host.

Tickets SRO.

Trying to work out how £60k would work, there’s decent arguments for 30/30, 20/40 and 10/50 for two Winner’s Circles.

Edit: Oh, of interest, the advert suggests three teams.

Just left the recording now. Good show. Hour-long, primetime I think. ITV was mentioned. Jane McDonald did a great job presenting. The guests were Justin Moorhouse, Marlon Davis, and Jenny Ryan. The winner’s circles were 10/20/30. The pacing felt a little off, there was no real difference in difficulty between the rounds. The final winners circle especially, which had rather easy clues, though I suppose given its just a pilot they wanted the contestant to win so it ended on a good climax? Graphics and set were nothing remarkable really. Looked a bit cheap if anything. Jane had to be told not to perch on her lectern as it was just cardboard. A couple of graphical hitches too, multiple clues appearing at once, that sort of thing; things that had they been playing for real money an adjudicator would probably not have been happy with. I seemed to recognise one or two of the contestants from other shows. Still a really enjoyable couple of hours though. Also, don’t know if this is news, but I think I saw that Riddiculous were rehearsing in the studio next door.

Thanks very much for this! There was a story going round that McDonald was disappointed not to get Blankety Blank on Channel 5 years ago when it was floating about, she’s not the first name you think of to host a gameshow but I suspect she might have OK chops for it.

I knew Riddiculous was looking for contestants so that is quite likely.
