Got To Get Out is the new Glenn Hugill produced show for Hulu starting next week (so no idea if this will be officially viewable in the UK anywhere) where a mixture of reality celebs and non-celebs try and escape a house as a money clock counts up to a million dollars. It looks quite fun from the trailer, although the trailer also details a major spoiler which suggests episode 3/4 will probably be worth a watch so you might as well not bother with any of the other ones. Also it occurs the reason it looks quite fun is because it was quite fun when it was basically Jailbreak with Craig Charles on Channel 5 about 25 years ago.
You had me at Glenn Hugill
Million Dollar Secret on currently is also him.
This feels intriguing, but at the same time not enough? I feel I would give this a go if it had more celebrities I was interested in (for this season, it’s only Val).
I’d love someone to take another go at Jailbreak – it was so good.
It’s on Disney+ in the uk
That’s useful to know, thanks.
Just started watching this. It’s very jailbreakey the major difference is the guards are your fellow contestants. They have put a lot of money into this which I wasn’t expecting.
Oh and anybody who watches US reality shows will know Omarosa who is also on this.
Just watched all of this. No spoilers
It’s quite a simple format. 20 players in total, 10 regular 10 from reality TV. Each show 4 people are picked at random to get some help to escape. These come in the form of an exit strategy or something to assist somebody with an exit strategy.
The exit strategy will detail a time when an exit is due to open. That will be when a certain amount is on the game clock, which is represented by money ticking up $1 each second.
That person can elect to keep or share the information.
In order to escape somebody has to run up the driveway which I am estimating is about 500m before anybody spots them and presses the close gate button. Also to assist is a watch tower which has an alarm leaver which when pulled alerts the house to a possible escape but the close gates button still has to be pressed to avoid escaping.
It is actually very tense watching a plan of escape being created and then seeing the runner make their attempt.
If somebody makes it out they then return to the house to detail their exit strategy and out any accomplices. They can choose to split their winnings with them which is the amount currently on the clock, if they so choose but if the person accepts they too leave. Upon any escape the money starts back at 0 again.
It’s all about building alliances, anybody who is left in the house on day 10 splits whatever money is left in the pot.
It’s an interesting dynamic as you want to protect the pot when you are not escaping but distract when you are. The players often take about being in defense or attack mode in the game.
What I will say is a group of 20 makes it quite easy to cover the bases for defence, as usually it’s only 2 or 3 trying to get out so you have more on defense making it harder to escape.
Second of all there is a lot of button spamming to begin with and an incorrect hit of the close gates button gives no penalties this does get rectified later on to quite amusing results.
I also think the team needed to be a bit more creative with exit strategies. There is a couple of good ones, but the rest are really just about running fast which does not suit the vast majority of players.
It was a fun watch and I would certainly watch a series 2. They put a huge amount of money into this which for a Hulu original surprised me a bit.
This comment made me think I should actually give it a go.
