Soft, strong and very very long

By | August 28, 2010

We were shown some old French shows during the past week which were, as I’m sure you could guess, quite interesting. Here, for example, is a very young looking Patrice Laffont hosting Des Chiffres et Des Lettres in 1972.

But more interesting than that, the show that begat Des Chiffres… namely Le Mot Le Plus Long. I thought I would write a feature on it, so here you are.

That numbers round in the pic up there I managed to solve. I feel so smart :>

Interesting fact, they used to alternate letters and numbers games, the viewers were given a minute for the numbers but the contestants were effectively on the buzzer, yelling “stop!” when they’ve figured out the sum. If nobody got it, the closest would do their sum for half points.

Wait, my method DOES work after all.

          8×5 = 40
          40+50 = 90
          90 x 10 = 900
          900-1 = 899

It seems the future presenter of Watchdog, Brig Bother has made a breakthrough.

A bloke has been selected on tonight’s Magic Number. Just days after he interrogated the auditors on the show.
