Questions too esoteric for Only Connect Part Deux

By | September 22, 2010

Or rather “question that might be OK but could probably do with some work”. This is diffierent from the one I originally envisioned, what connects the following?

  • [Cambridge] First
  • [The/Evening] Argus (Brighton and Hove)
  • [Lots of places] Mercury
  • [Lots of places] Post

CMD writes:

Last names of newspaper titles (Gazette, Express, Post, Times etc.) No, I wouldn’t care to guess where these newspapers are published.

Yes indeed, local newspapers in this case. Well done to you if you got it at home.

Also, The Million Pound Drop is casting for its October series, keep an eye out on Twitter for details. The show starts October 25th for five days with extra shows on the next two following Fridays and Saturdays.

In other news, I’m enjoying 71 Degrees North as an adventure, although the elimination aspect feels rather tacked on and tacky. Would it be a better show if it was solely about celebrities doing challenges in the Arctic and only getting sent home on medical advice? Amateurs building snow caves was quite interesting and fun. You could keep the competition aspect.

That’s very interesting, I did a cursory glance on Wikipedia to see how popular it was and only really saw it for down south, not thinking it was that popular a name. How wrong I was!

I’m applying for MPD with one of my friends from the DDR community. True story.

How will you resist the temptation to jump on the trapdoors when 172bpm hardcore is played over the speakers?

Funnily enough, Birmingham had three of the four at one point – Birmingham Post, Sunday Mercury and Sports Argus.

Nice to see someone have a punt on the £150,000 question on Millionaire. this series seems to have a sort of £75,000 barrier where the last series seemed to have a £20,000 barrier.

    Connect these, me hearties:

    Davina
    Ant
    Dec
    Darren Day

NB the connection is not actually buccaneering, nor does it rely on the fact that I haven’t bothered to write three of the names out in full.

I’m rapidly losing confidence that my question and answer are actually interesting in the first place, so I’ll just tell you. They all appeared on the same episode of You Bet! in 1997, the first three as contestants.

Most of the celebrity contestants were years after their time even then, so to get Davina, Ant and Dec – all three of whom had a good dozen years or more at the top of the TV bills ahead of them – on the same episode looks like a remarkably prescient piece of booking.

Nothing in C4’s schedules for 5th-8th October for Million Pound Drop, so guessing we’ll have to wait a while longer.

Cheers. Can see it being shunted around BB style then considering series currently on air.
