Hold On To Your Contestants

By | December 23, 2010

Just a quickie – if you’ve arrived late and missed the action, Dai, the champion from the episode of Tout Le Monde Veut Prendre Sa Place! on the episode I did a feature on has dropped by and is happy to take questions. I know there are fans of the show here, so go ahead.

Also quiz fans it’s the live edition of Who Wants to be a Millionaire? this evening from 9pm.

Hmmm, I wonder why Who Wants To Be A Millionaire are going live for the first time ever tonight? Couldn’t be because of the success of The Million Pound Drop going live, could it… 😉

Are you being deliberately stupid now? Because I’m getting fed up.

They did a live show ages ago for the show’s apparent 300th episode. They are probably doing a live show to pep up falling ratings. Good luck to it I say.

Not sure if this has been noted: the 8 celebrities appearing tonight are: Ann Widdecombe, David Haye, Chris Evans, James Martin, Gok Wan, Carol Vorderman, Mikey North and Katy Cavanagh.

Already beat you to it days ago.

It does help if you a) do your research and b) read the comments rather than jump the gun. Originally it was meant to be Debbie Rush pairing with Mikey North but it looks like she cannot make it. Don’t be surprised if it’s to do with the snow.

As for the live show, as Brig stated, it’s actually the second live show. The first live show was done in November 2002 to celebrate their 300th show but it was actually the 299th to be aired. As with the viewer competition winning half the winnings, this is an idea taken from the Aussie version. They did about 2-3 live shows lasting nearly 3 hours each which featured the viewers ringing in and entering a random draw. Those selected would win half the winnings. Unlike the Aussie version, the selected viewers will have to answer a question on air tonight.

They are really building the show up tonight, I notice the twitter and Facebook feeds have been going overtime to get the message out.

In that respect, you have to admit, they’ve learnt from Endemol.

There, I said it. I shall now wash my mouth out with soap. (Or brussel sprouts, either seems to work)

DITTO! I was alright til I busted my main PC and ending up buying a new processor. Thank goodness for laptops.

            BAH!

Perhaps a game show joke to lighten the mood? (Sorry it’s US-based, but it’s becoming topical again.)

Why doesn’t Ken Jennings like playing Starcraft?

    Because he hates getting Zerg-rushed.

I don’t think celebrities should have a second chance to appear on Who Wants to be a Millionaire. New people should be given a chance.

Have to say I agree with this. Not just because of the “You’re only here once rule” but also it’s not really dishing up anything new for the viewer.

Then again Weakest Link have been recycling celebrities on their shows ages before Millionaire startinh doing it. I think Vanessa Feltz have appeared on four WL specials.

But even from the first two years, WL recycled contestants for things like the Bad Losers specials. Whereas being in the Millionaire Chair is more of a special thing.

18 minutes in – and 3 questions. In the clock format. Not terribly impressive, is it.

If not all the celebrities can a chance to go in the hot seat, do you think they’ll get a chance to appear on another Celebrity special? Maybe they’ll film the remaining celebrities in a separate show tomorrow to be broadcaster next year?

or they’ll let the show overrun. That’s how the Australians did it eight years ago. A two hour show with six games lasted over three hours.

This episode of Who Wants to Be A Millionaire is brilliant so far. When it’s on top form, there’s very few other gameshows which are as good.

I’ll have to admit I’m not a fan of the previous celebrity specials they made since it was obvivous there would be no rollover couples but me and family are loving it tonight.

I’ve been tuned in for about 10 minutes. Someone give Chris some Valium and tell him to calm the hell down.

He is up against the ITV schedulers.

I also notice that none of the regular Millionaire production team (David Briggs etc…) were working on tonight’s live but some chap called Richard Van’t Riet. That chap does get around these days.

I wonder if Chris Evans dare play Fairytale of New York tomorrow morning on his show?

What made it more ironic that if Chris Evans watched Chris Moyles Quiz Night recently he would’ve found out the mixture for a Cheeky Vimto. This was down to Charlotte Church appearing on the show.

Interestingly, Charlotte also explained the recipe for a Cheeky Vimto on Jamie Oliver’s Christmas show, also on C4 a few days before.

Well the general view on DS of this live ep isn’t a favourable one.

I can sort of see why – especially given the way the show ended…

I didn’t like how they teased the £20k question then sounded the klaxon!

Who cares if it runs over by a few minutes, at least give them the chance of getting to £50k on the ladder!
