That’s Yer (Pi)Lot: Worth a Fortune

By | August 9, 2011

This films on Wednesday, if you’re brave enough to brave the London Studios in the current climate (tickets still avaliable for the 4pm recording) then we’d love to hear your opinions as I won’t be going.

From what I’ve heard, four people begin, something is bought out and people try and guess its value. Furthest away is eliminated, until the one person left wins a large cash prize. “Hilarious celebrity host” promised, but it is Applause Store so it could be literally anybody.

DOND season 7 starting two weeks earlier than originally planned, it seems…

    Strange. I wonder why?

The Hall of Fame repeats are not zero’ing out the viewing figures, surely?

Either they are or they want to give the show a mid season break at some point. Don’t forget Channel 4 is now showing more Paralympic Games programming for 2012 Paralympics in London so we can could see live coverage of some disabled sports.

I’m reliably informed Richard Bacon hosted this.

    I like Richard Bacon. But I don’t think he’s ITV1.

Does he understand the rules this time?

I mean, yeah, as a presenter he’s enjoyable but… His opinion on 19 Keys being almost unfollowable and the prize fund ‘going up and down for no apparent reason’ is head scratching. I mean, I don’t expect everyone to like a straight quiz where the winner might just get lucky and win ‘undeservedly,’ but…

I have a suspicion that Mr. Bacon wants this to become a running joke through his career: over the years, he’s made the show sound more and more complex, until I wonder if I’m confusing it with Mornington Crescent. He understood the rules at the time, but doubtless doesn’t remember them eight years on. Why should he?

On Mr. Bother’s salient point: I think Mr. Bacon could be an ITV host, if he’s given the right material. He’s a people person, less of an ideas man.

Richard was also the host for BBC pilot ‘Deduction’. It’ll be interesting to see if either of these shows sees the light of day.

I’m relatively sure they cast contestants for Deduction and that it’s got a series run commissioned.

Oh, I’d been keeping an eye out for a contestant call but didn’t see one. Any idea when it’s recording or going to be shown?

Looking again, the contestant call only mentioned a pilot show.

Best comment of Richard Bacon’s broadcasting style was from (the much missed by me) Off The Telly who said something like that when he was on The Big Breakfast he was so sarcastic and ironic that he appeared to speak every sentence like the script was written in inverted commas.

    4/8: 2.66m
    5/8: 2.31m

It’s going to be interesting to see what happens when The Chase returns to originals, I think The Chase will find it hard to clawback first place.

There is a chance neither show will clash. Pointless will wrap up their four series on 26th August. With The Chase airing their new episodes in September.

As for what The Chase is getting, it’s more than what Dinner Date was getting recently.
