Board of Excitement 21st – 27th August 2011

By | August 22, 2011

After all the excitement of last week this week seems a bit of a disappointment. Only Connect this week are the Edwards Family vs Inorganic Chemists (8:30, BBC4), Celeb Big Brother is on all week (Various, C5), I will have a backlog of Take the Money and Run to catch up on (Tuesday, ABC). Ant and Dec’s answer to Name That Tune The Beat Goes On fronted by Dave Berry begins Wednesday on Five and Saturday sees Epic Win and obviously a Total Wipeout Celeb Special (from 5:20, BBC1) which is of interest because I think it’s the first episode on the new course. So there we are.

What piece of software do you use if you want to see live updates of Twitter comments scrolling by? There’s so much activity on #onlyconnect any more I can’t keep up with it by refreshing the usual web version.

By the way, on the official Facebook page for Only Connect http://www.facebook.com/OnlyConnectQuiz I’m intending to release a kind of “bonus tracks” note on the Monday after each show as a way of listing any other bits of trivia, further explanations, alternative answers etc. The first one is up now.

Am I the only person who thought Epic Win was pretty good? It could have done with a faster money clock bit and half the number of producers, but otherwise…

You appear to have missed the big ol’ Show Discussion post about Epic Win. I liked it, although apparently it’s insidious and evil. Lots of people here seemed to like it, actually.

I don’t know about Twitter software unfortunately. Punters?

Looking forward to OC Director’s Commentary!

At the risk of sounding thick, where abouts are the extra bits of trivia, etc. on the Facebook page? you said that the first one’s up now although I can’t find it!

Countdown is returning from its summer break today.

There were actually meant to be 2 special episodes last week, but they were cancelled for some reason.

Regarding the new Celebrity Total Wipeout, it’s listed as being episode 11/12 of Series 5 which means, surely, that it’ll be presented in a manner that assumes we’ve already seen the first ten episodes, the new obstacles and new rounds. In my opinion it seems a bit daft and frankly inconsiderate to the viewers unless they’ve got a clever plan to overcome the issue.

The Beat Goes On basically is the one with the DDR endgame, isn’t it?

As I write this, our NBC network is running “American Ninja Warrior”, in which ten Yanks will take on the obstacle course of the Japanese series “Sasuke”.

Cable channel G4 (which is owned by the same folks who own NBC) has been running edited versions of “Sasuke”under the title “Ninja Warrior”. This is the first appearance of this format on “regular” prime-time television. We’ll see how it does in the ratings.

It’ll start on the West Coast in less than two hours–one of the pitfalls of living in such an inconveniently large country!

Also NBC have changed where the graphics appear. It’ll take some time getting used to the clock appearing on the bottom.

He was happy to appear on This Morning making fun of it. I can see why he was a bit annoyed about bit much moaning off to Ofcom however it was afterall just a bloomin comedy show.

How ridiculous. If you put yourself up for a game/quiz show then, as far as I’m concerned, you have to take any flak that comes your way.

He was happy with Richard Bacon basically doing the same thing though, makes me wonder ITV offered him anything monetary in exchange.
