Saturday Night’s Alright for Writing – 7th January 2012

By | January 7, 2012

It’s Saturday! And it’s time for another round of Saturday Night’s Alright For Writing, a thing for things that are on on Saturday night that I don’t deem quite important enough to get their own Show Discussion posts. TER-NIGHT!:

I think that’s it!

Given Who Dares Wins was recorded at Granada Studios in November and it’s the third set of studios the show have used since it’s debut in 2007 (BBC TVC & BBC Pacific Quay being the other two).

Does anybody know any show that has used at least four different television studios? At the moment I think of Who Dares Wins, 1 Vs 100 and The Price is Right who have used three different studios across the UK but I’m not sure if a show has been produced at four different locations. Obviously, I am excluding one offs. like Gameshow Marathon.

Was it just the US episodes The Money List that got taped at ITV Studios then? I was at one of those and presumed that the studio was left completely intact for taping UK episodes, as happens with international tapings of The Cube.

Yes, The Money List was recorded at LWT Tower (ITV Studios). No episodes of Who Dares Wins were recorded there.

      That’s a good one Travis.

Off the top of my head there are two that has spent regular time in 4 different studio facilites.

Mastermind – ‘BBC Two years’ have used BBC Manchester, Granada, TVC and MediaCity.
Throw in where ‘Discovery Mastermind’ was recorded at (although something tells me that may have been TVC) and it could be 5.

Question of Sport was also wandering nomad around the studios in it’s time. Again, using the same four studio facilities as Mastermind.

I’m glad Darren McMullan seems to be going down well on The MAgicians. I *did* say.

I think this should be a vote *against* people for the forfeit trick, surely?

He’s fine, BUT I would say that the line up of five almost identical looking 30-somethings was a bit uninteresting, really.

And I don’t find their ‘edgy’ angle suitable for the timeslot at all. Much prefer P&T’s more genial approach with the occasional shock factor.

Anyone know why Who Dares Wins is showing as ‘Not Available’ on BBC iPlayer? Usually it would either be there or ‘Coming Soon’

It’s possible the BBC just haven’t stumped up the cash to show it on iPlayer. I certainly remember having to download it from other sources in a previous series, so it’s not a new situation.

The only other explanation I can think of is that maybe the BBC don’t have the rights to put the Lotto draw on the Internet? But if that was the case, you’d think they could just edit it out?

Could it really be ten years since Dirty Money first popped up on Sky One? 😯

Well, it’s now being repeated on Challenge…
