Board of Excitement 20th-27th March 2010

After last week’s brief excitement, not a massive amount to get excited about this coming week really:

  • Deal or No Deal  – has been moved to 4pm today because of world events in Libya, this won’t be in your listings magazines (4pm, Sunday, C4)
  • The Million Dollar Drop – Eddie Mcguire calls the US show what it should have been called in the first place, but in Australian. (8:30pm, Nine, Australia)
  • Double Cross – Haven’t had a chance to listen to the episode one edit yet, but Episode two comes along on Monday. (on iTunes, Monday)
  • Accumulate – I’m so far behind with this (sorry peeps) but my reckoning it’s the grand final this week? Edit: Second semi-final as it turns out. (Friday, RU:ON TV)
  • So You Think You Can Dance? – although I can’t say I’m that excited really. Ant and Dec’s Push the Button increased to almost 6m without Let’s Dance to compete with, so it will be intereststing to see if it keeps its audience with Cat and Nasty Nigel in opposition. Secret Fortune returns after it’s one week rugby break an hour later. (7:10pm, Saturday, BBC1)
  • The Bother Series of Poker: Game 6 – I’ve not set this up yet, expect details midweek. (Sunday, Full Tilt)

Also expect a review of the new Minute to Win It app that’s just come out sometime during the week. Does it fall into the same traps as The Cube? (Sneak preview: yes.)

Also! Our very good friends at UKGameshows.com now have a new twitter account that alerts viewers to new articles. It’s run by Auntie Sabrina, although she looks a bit like Robert Robinson these days if the picture is anything to go by. Anyway it’s a great idea so well worth a follow IGNORE THE MAN BEHIND THE CURTAIN, follow the OFFICIAL official account instead.

Right I’m still ill, I’m using my iPad in bed to comment on things, like a sort of real life version of Denzil Washington’s bed in The Bone Collector but I have FORCED MYSELF out to write a new post for you:

  • Do you remember I went to see some episodes of the brilliant Pointless being filmed last month? Well those two episodes are actually going out today and Friday. At the time of writing Thursday has been and gone, but I advise you all to try and watch Fridays because for many different reasons it’s a bit of a belter. Edit:  IF you want to know exactly how ill I am, I wasn’t at Thursday’s episode at all so God knows why it felt so familiar. Anyway, today’s is good, Monday’s is brilliant – great contestants, packed with incident, and I was laughing hard throughout.
  • 101 Ways to Leave a Gameshow has been picked up for a six week run in the US. I said when it first came on over here that it’s a show likely to work better with US pacing and money.
  • Spring Wipeout starts tonight, the show that was hurriedly commissioned for Winter Wipeout‘s massive ratings before American Idol decided it would still do OK without Simon Cowell anyway.
  • Paddy O’ Connell’s been sacked from the BBC3 Eurovision coverage! Travesty.

Board of Excitement 13th – 19th March 2011

After not much last week, this week it’s loads and a lot of it Comic Relief related:

  • The Bother Series of Poker Game 5 – I do feel quite ill at the moment, so what better time to come along and clear up? Don’t forget if you’re playing in the US your clocks have gone forward, so you will want to come along at 1600 ET. (8pm, Full Tilt, Sunday) – Discussion page.
  • 24 Hour Panel People – I have no idea if this is going to work in highlight form, especially as it will be condensing 20 different shows into a little over two-and-a-half hours. Also it looks like they’ve added an extra episode because it’s starting tonight. (10pm Sunday and Wednesday, 10:30pm Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, BBC3)
  • Double Cross – First in a new series of podcasts. The live streaming was fun (hopefully they will be doing it again this week), you can download them on iTunes from here. (Monday)
  • Pointless – New series with Alexander Armstrong and the very tall Richard Osman (4:30pm, Monday, BBC2)
  • Only Connect – Comic Relief celebrity special featuring much the same celebs as the Children in Need one. I predict The Coren will wear a red nose whilst giving the impression she’s slightly displeased about it. (8:30pm, Monday, BBC4)
  • Survivor – although I’ve not yet watched this week’s. (Wednesday, CBS)
  • Accumulate – it’s a semi-final! (Friday, RUON)
  • Comic Relief night Do give generously. (From 7pm, Friday, BBC1)
  • Take Me Out – doesn’t normally get a billing (although I do like it), but I’ve noticed that it’s been increasing its airtime recently – this Saturday the show is going to be 90 minutes long! There is no Secret Fortune because of the rugby. (8:35pm, Saturday, ITV1)

I think that’s it. Meanwhile, whilst I deliberately stay away from political stuff, it would be wrong I think to advertise Red Nose Day and not point out that the British Red Cross are now taking donations over the Japanese disaster.

Sorry, I know it’s two Youtube vids in a row, but I was alerted to this this morning and I think it will be of interest to the Punters. Limmy’s Show is a comedy sketch show on BBC Scotland which I’ve heard good things about, and one of the show’s recurring sketches is something called Adventure Call, a parody of the old late night TV quizzes and old computer adventure games. I think I might check out the show for real:

Right, I’ve not really been following the Eurovision selection process this year but Blue’s I Can, the UK entry, got it’s first showing on Graham Norton last night.

I don’t think it’s completely awful actually, although it’s no Bubblin’, obviously.
