Show Discussion: Think Tank

By | March 20, 2016

Think_TankWeekdays 2:15pm,
BBC1

New quiz fronted by popular grumpy Scotsman and beekeeper Bill Turnbull featuring a cast of regular contributors (it says here) called the Think Tank who have answered hundreds of questions beforehand and who may or may not be of use to the three daily contestants hoping to win a bit of money.

There’s a four minute preview clip here. It looks like another polite basically sound but no-octane quiz format from the masters of polite basically sound but no-octane quiz formats 12 Yard.

Whatever our misgivings with 12 Yard’s output, we do appreciate them playing along with our greatest legacy #hostholdingaquestioncard so there is that. This is now the third game called Think Tank that’s been done in the UK, which might be a record.

Paul Daniels

By | March 17, 2016

danielsI was sad to hear of the passing of Paul Daniels this morning, a magician I enjoyed watching growing up but also a masterful host of Every Second Counts and Wipeout (and also Odd One Out but I was a bit young). By turns comically grumpy, then demonstrating ballet moves using a Barbie doll as a model (I always thought he was a better host and had a better grasp of the tension of Wipeout than the late great Bob Monkhouse).

He is also the inspiration for #hostholdingaquestioncard. Which isn’t even a question card really.

Edit: Challenge showing Paul Daniels eps of Wipeout, Celebrity Blockbusters (as contestant) and Blankety Blank (as panellist) between noon and 5pm on Sunday.

Edit edit: Incredible.

Noel’s Saturday Roadshow

By | March 16, 2016

With thanks to TV’s Greg Scott for uploading this (his Twitter, his Youtube), a full episode of The Noel Edmonds Saturday Roadshow, the missing link between The Late Late Breakfast Show and Noel’s House Party. There’s plenty of the gunge tank game segment In Other Words on Youtube, but this is the first full episode as far as I know. Great stuff.

It was basically NHP except with a different set each week, lots of the features carried over.

Greg’s Youtube page also has an episode of old school That’s Showbusiness on it, with Kenny Everett and Gloria Hunniford as team captains.

The Chase Australia starts on Challenge TV tonight

By | March 14, 2016

From 9pm. The interest is that The Governess aka Anne Hegerty is one of the four Chasers. The Beast has also filmed episodes but they won’t be making their way over here for a fair while.

There’s also a Sport Relief celeb special of Only Connect on BBC Two from 8:30pm.

Edit: It’s the Joe and Jake video! Could do with a Steadicam.

The Grand Reopening of Bother’s Bar

By | March 12, 2016

Right, sorry about that we had a database issue, and right now I’ve done something a bit crazy that might make the Bar fall to its knees in due course, I don’t know. If you see anything funny occuring, outside of my usual cracking jokes, do get in touch.  Anyway for now here’s a round of up of some things:

  • Hypnotic game You’re Back In The Room starts tonight at 8:30pm after Ant and Dec, despite being advertised as 8pm for the last week or so. When we saw the first series being filmed I thought it was going to be either massive or a flop, and it turned out to be just a moderate success instead. We discussed the first series here.
  • The new comics lined up for series two of Taskmaster have been announced and it’s a good selection! Jon Richardson, Katherine Ryan, Joe Wilkinson, Doc Brown (the only real unkown for me) and Britain’s Hardest Working Man Richard Osman complete the panel. Greg Davies and Alex Horne once again host, the studio stuff starts filming this week so hopefully it will hit our screens soon.
  • A second series of Insert Name Here with Sue Perkins, Josh Widdicombe and Britain’s Hardest Working Man Richard Osman has been commissioned.
  • Physical Touch It Win It game Can’t Touch This starts on Saturday 26th March, presumably cutting The Getaway Car series in half, otherwise that’s a very action packed night on BBC1. The trailer makes it look like it might be The Whole 19 Yards kind of fun, and we like the production team, but whoever thought having Sue Perkins commentating a physical gameshow so soon after Don’t Scare The Hare needs shooting.

Finally here’s a brilliant gag regarding the fact that John Cooper Clarke is on the Sports Relief Only Connect special on Monday. This would have got thousands of Retweets if Britain’s Hardest Working Man Richard Osman had made it:

I mean honestly.

People wanted (especially international players!) for The Hit List on Thursday

By | March 8, 2016

You might remember we’ve featured word association game The Hit List before, a going concern from Friends Of The Bar Tom Scott and David Bodycombe (currently featuring in Tom’s Game On videos on Youtube).

Well on Thursday night they’re doing it again with live gameplay from 8pm to try things out and you can play along on Twitter. However if you’ve got Skype and a webcam, and especially if you’re outside the UK, you should get in touch:

And you’ll be able watch to play along on Thursday on Tom’s Youtube channel.
