Million Pound Dropped

By | March 7, 2016

According to Metro, The Million Pound Drop – Live!/Recorded! has finally been given the axe.

We had a hate/love affair with the show really – it really was a bit rubbish at first, hailing from an era when Endemol would confidently put out highly hyped but slightly rubbish shows as de rigeur with its slow pace and abominable question writing, but turned it around to become a show I highly enjoyed tweeting along to, and even though I still think playing along officially with the app is more like work than leisure, it was I think the first show to have an app that was worth the money. Although they still missed a trick in not calling it The Million Pound Drapp.

I expect there’s a chance it may come back in the future – it’s been off and on in a few countries in its short five year history. There are also suggestions The Jump might be for the jump as well, poor Davina!

I am trialling a new look

By | March 6, 2016

Right now I’m 50/50 on keeping it.

Pros: It’s uncluttered and a bit more modern looking. Looks good on mobile.

Cons: I don’t like having to scroll down to the bottom to see the new comment list on my iPad. The menu is a bit weird.

Do let me know what you think, it wouldn’t be too much effort to go back to the old theme.

Edit: Cold feet, changed back. Still who knows what *might* happen in the future, eh?

Who is the best mother in gameshows?

By | March 6, 2016

It’s Mother’s Day today in the UK (and Nigeria, according to Wikipedia) so it’s time to ask the question who is the best mother in gameshows?

The obvious answer is of course Mumsey from The Crystal Maze and here is Richard O’ Brien’s touching tribute:

Speaking of The Crystal Maze, the Live Experience is currently in its testing period and all signs are pointing to it being rather good – cynical as I was about the idea I’m quite looking forward to going in April.

Edit: Doubtless you might have noticed that we’re looking a bit different today. Basically I got fed up with how the site was working on my mobile so I’m trying out a few things. The new set up is a bit cleaner and uncluttered, if you’re having issues please let me know.

Female quizzers wanted for a pilot

By | March 1, 2016

Not sure what it’s about but Sean’s a Friend Of The Bar so:

We’re looking for some female quizzers for a pilot we’re filming very soon. If they could send their name, age and phone number to Sean.obrien@itv.com that would be grand.

Go for it. In other news Britain’s hardest working man Richard Osman will be fronting the new series of C4’s Child Genius, you can apply for tickets at SRO Audiences, it films in London and if that’s interesting to you you need to get in quick as it films this weekend.

Edit: This may well be Cash Trappedit’s been suggested.

Edit edit: You wait twenty years to see an episode of Remote Control UK then two turn up in the space of a month. This one featuring Dave Rainford off of Eggheads. Incredible.

Fool Us

By | February 29, 2016

So here’s fun. You might remember Penn and Teller: Fool Us – the show where magicians perform tricks in front of the star magicians and if they couldn’t work out how it was done they’d get invited to be a support act for their world famous Vegas show. We liked it, and after a successful pilot a so-so faring series on ITV followed, and then it was dropped. BUT! The ITV series was shown on The CW in the US, and was so successful for them they decided to make their own series with Jonathan Ross and everything last year. And that’s been successful enough to get a third run as well.

However the first US series is being broadcast on Channel 5 from Sunday look:
