Show Discussion: Tenable S2+

By | February 11, 2018

Weekdays, 3pm,
ITV

Note: There didn’t seem much point in giving this an all-new discussion post for series three as series 2-4 were recorded as one 60 episode block split into three series of twenty, so it’s unlikely there will be many surprises. However for those who want it I’ve floated the most recent post up to the top.

Good stuff, our favourite surprise from last year returns for a new run which I believe is the first of three twenty-episode runs to be spread throughout the year.

Tenable challenges teams of five to complete lists of top tens for big money prizes. In many ways nothing we haven’t seen before in terms of format (which magpie-like borrows bits from many daytime shows before it), but excels in the execution, in particular blockbuster film star Warwick Davies’ excellent genial hosting which keeps things flowing nicely.

Don’t know if they’ve made any format changes, and I guess we’ll soon see if the quality of entertaining lists of ten stands up over the next sixty recorded episodes. they may never be able to match the ingeniousness of “the ten chocolates that have ever appeared in a box of Celebrations” but hopefully they can come close.

We discussed series one here.

From the outtakes that i have seen on Twiter one of the top 10 went gold. Wether this indicates a prize or bonus pot i don’t know. We will soon see.

Yes there have definitely been sixty episodes recorded, but I don’t think they’re going out all at once. I may (and be happy to) be wrong though.

So the gold colour scheme is used on the final round. No changes in rules.

It was good today, although alarm bells rung a bit at the top ten smells questions, not sure polls feel exact enough to be good questions (especially when most of the answers were ‘baking X’, would have been interested to see what would have happened if she just said ‘baking’). We’ll see though.

I’m enjoying the other ways they are combating the limited pool of top 10 lists, such as the final list of this episode. Cutting down a larger list via specification or merging smaller lists together seems like an interestinf approach.

I’m half anticipating a question like “The 10 combined members of The Spice Girls and Girls Aloud”

A Girls Aloud question did actually come up yesterday (but it wasn’t that one)!

Good to see this back – good episode today, the final in particular

Enjoying this so far, though the question difficulty is a bit uneven. Yesterday’s (Wednesday’s) final question was basically “Shut up and give us the money”. If anything, it’s proving a bit too easy, than too hard as was suspected.

I mean, if it was “Starting from January 1st, the first ten zodiac signs of the year” at least there was a chance of a couple of wrong answers along the way…

Even then though, you could only give two wrong answers which are actual star-signs. I agree it seemed ridiculously easy.

But since they had three team members left, it wouldn’t have been a bad choice of question. I don’t know whether these days producers are allowed to change the final question depending on how many players are left or how much cash is in the pot. Certainly 10-20 years ago it would’ve been seen as far game as a production choice.

A tough hand dealt to today’s finalists – they only got 7 anyway on “Top 10 Museums and Galleries In London By Visitor Numbers” but one of the ones they missed was “White Tower at the Tower of London!”

Today’s Tenable (13/11) is one to watch for all the wrong reasons. Let’s say the producers were probably biting their nails.

This is doing very well by the way – over a million daily and on Monday, the hysterically poor IT group, over 1.2m. Well done everybody.

Well, now we know what happens when all 4 team members go out and the captain doesn’t get enough answers to bring anyone back or put any money in the pot. The captain is left all on their lonesome and Warwick spots the prize fund with £500.

Yeah that happened twice this week. Mon & Fri. Both occasions they lost the £500. It will be interesting to see if anyone gets the amount.

Indeed so! Look forward to a copper coloured jumper which was an outrageous costume choice during a summer recording but will look rather appropriate during the winter broadcast.

Question writing fatigue is threatening to set in – Today’s show had the third James Bond films Final in just 11 episodes so far this series
