Win Dick ‘n’ Dom’s Money

By | June 12, 2019

Of interest, Dick ‘n’ Dom’s new podcast Cash From Chaos, where they play games against members of the audience who are trying to win their money, has just landed. We’ll give it a listen in due course.

I’m actually very interested to see how D’n’D come across in podcast medium given that their schtick tends to have a high visual element.

I saw your tweet speculating that Supermarket Sweep might be coming back this summer…You know, we haven’t heard anything about what ITV will do in the Chase slot when they go on their usual late summer break..

They’re almost certainly saving it for the Summer. They’ve filmed loads because Bradley is busy with a lot of other stuff outside of The Chase these days.

I think they could do an hour-long Supermarket Sweep if they did something like this:
(which uses a few ideas from the short-lived US Spanish version: https://youtu.be/TKUWgeb6UxY )

    -4 teams of two start

-First part each team plays one at a time

-Object is to complete an “Express Sweep”- a 6-item list (each list is different but has similar items in similar areas- for example, one list might ask for a can of tomato soup, but another would ask for beef broth) as fast as possible.

-Each team would get 6 multiple-choice questions; each correct answer will knock 5 seconds off their total time.

-Instead of a cart they would use a hand-held basket. They can only have 6 items in their basket when they finish (clock starts when they leave the checkout counter and stops when they cross the line with their 6 items; having more or less than 6 items incurs a 15 second penalty for each item over or under 6)

-It’s better to be accurate than fast (a team with a time of 1:45 and 6 correct items beats a team with 1:15 but only 5 correct items).

-Best 3 teams go on to the 2nd half of the show, which is played like Classic Sweep.

I know it’s a little involved, but it does have more time actually running in the aisles, and you could have a bonus for the overall fastest time (maybe they get one of the Big Sweep shopping list items automatically so they only need 2 to finish the list while the other 2 teams need 3)

Dick’n’Dom’s Cash From Chaos: very low-rent indeed. Probably the best bit is where they do a minute of surreal questions for a quid a shot, and at that point you might as well be playing entirely for laughs. I really should get around to watching Billy On The Street at some point.

Far from disastrous, yet not even a tiny step forward. (Wouldn’t be too surprised to see “far from disastrous” used as a blurb for it now…)

I’m wondering if it’s a soft pilot for a screen version.

I quite enjoyed it but it is complete throwaway. Actually the idea of visual games in podcast form not really working ended up being quite amusing in itself. As much as I like Dick and Dom, it’s not quite the same without the characters they tend to work with.
