I just can’t wait ’til Saturday

Hey! It’s Saturday night, and if you’re not excited about Swedish crime drama Fartblinda, why not look at these titles from Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway but in Finnish, called Humma?

I know they are allowed as much of our format as possible but that is a 100% copycat of our titles. hopefully they are filming new titles, after all, we technically don’t know where series 2020 will be broadcasted from. It could be TV centre but it will mean them having to build the set on the Sat due to the fact that the last leg will be broadcasting on a Fri evening and the set for that would be up.

I think you failed to see the point of international format sales. It’s quite possible the titles have to be identical and the more changes you make the less point there was buying the format in the first place otherwise you might as well not bother paying the fee in the first place.

In terms of using TC 1 there will be no issue there, the taking down and building of sets can be done in a couple of hours.

I think the London Studios references might be lost on people as it’s been so long since they last did the show by the time the new series starts and it’s never been that much in the public consciousness like TV centre has.

Random thought off this: I wonder how they’ll deal with the move to TV Centre in the opening credits of the UK version. Maybe the pre-titles sketch of the first episode will be a pre-recorded scene of Ant and Dec stood outside London Studios wondering why no-one is turning up, before they suddenly remember.

The only downside to that possible sketch is that it is a building site so wouldn’t translate that well.

Unrelated: did you know there’s such a thing as a Ninja Warrior UK Adventure Park? Two of them, in fact, in the city states of Stoke-on-Trent and Wigan, with two more coming soon and a related thing on a lake near Windsor. “60 minutes, £50”, as the old joke goes, except it’s actually only a tenner.

Mmm! I was vaguely aware they were doing it although didn’t know it was open. I originally misunderstood the page and thought it suggested it was only open to 4-12 year olds but that’s not actually the case.

The American version I was watching last week on Challenge it seemed as if half the competitors had knocked up their own American Warrior style gyms / adventure parks too!

Teams are from Italy, Spain, Germany, Greece, Poland and Russia.
Too bad the Belgians aren’t coming 🙁
The Swiss were invited but couldn’t make it in time. The irony.

There’ll be six episodes (five heats and the grand final), all at the Cinecittà World amusement park in Rome.

That’s .. odd. Nagui is commited on a reboot of Jeux Sans Frontières, taping and being broadcast in France somewhere before summer next year. Thought they would be working together but seems it’s not the case.

And it’s quite curious – they have everything from Jeux Sans Frontières, with the remixed theme (quite nice) but not the iconic logo ? Maybe there’s some kind of licencing issue since every official communication directly name “Jeux Sans Frontières” – and to add to the complexity, Mistral Groupe who was owning worldwide rights to the format (and Intervilles), went into bankruptcy in 2017 (with all bankruptcy procedures closing dureind last June). The format rights may be somewhere in legal limbo .. or may also have been bought for super cheap by Nagui’s Air Productions, quite hard to tell.

Air Production is part of the Banijay Group, the company that’s making the Italian show. I’m positive that they are going to make a separate version in France.

The Italian version has a different title because RAI still owns the national rights until July 2020.

Not that much – branded as Intervilles International, it got three seasons with quite low ratings (while being broadcast on Gulli, our free-to-air kids channel, not helping much)

@CeleTheRef – thanks for that information, it explains quite much indeed ! Still, i’m surprised that they didn’t worked together to reduce production costs by one edition for both France and Italy..

Only dipped into Millionaire last night at the start, but it seems that there were 5 (FIVE!) people in the chair following Fastest Finger First which even with New-Millionaire’s breakneck pace must be some sort of record.

Also, given that there are now only six people on Millionaire’s row, I do feel a tad sorry for the poor soul who didn’t get in the chair

I was curious enough to go hunting for more video, but all that appears to be out there is this really shaky point-camera-at-TV (quite poor, even by point-camera-at-TV standards). Nonetheless, you can watch, um, checking notes, Lorenz and Jaakko go through the motions, including their version of Win The Ads near the end.

Confusingly, Wikipedia says that it was cancelled in 2009 with no mention of a revival, yet those titles are clearly based on the UK’s 2013 version.

    Some US stuff-

-They had the 2nd ever grand prize winner on US Ninja Warrior in 11 seasons; 2 people got to the final challenge, and one of them completed it (though there was a bit of an asterisk- in the qualifying rounds, there were two special items that the fastest qualifiers could race for- one guaranteed a spot in the national final, and one allowed the winner a 2nd try on the first two stages of the national final if they failed- the eventual winner won both of them, and ended up failing the 1st stage of the final, but nailed the 2nd chance)

-Surprisingly, the Dwayne Johnson-created show Titan Games was picked up for a 2nd season to air in early 2020…
