Some fun things off of Twitter

By | July 28, 2016

Dara O Briain’s Go 8-Bit, based on a popular comedy show by McNeil and Pamphlion, makes its television debut on Dave on the 5th September.

We are very much looking forward to this, it’s basically comedians playing video games in front of a live audience, precisely the sort of low-ish key thing Dave does really quite well.

Meanwhile thanks to Buzzerblog for highlighting this:

I haven’t listened to it yet (it’s “in” my “queue”) but Planet Money is a hugely entertaining podcast about economics I’ve been listening to for ages and you probably should too.

Huh, that reminds of that format “From Start to Finish” which was being shopped around during that UK – South Korean trade which gave Possessed the rights to The Genius Game.

Opens the door to Dave doing something akin to Wil Wheaton’s Tabletop, or even potentially some RPG larks a la “Tabletop Escapades”.

This is rather different in that it’s just a bunch of people mucking about with video games, probably closer to Gamesmaster really. Apparently the last round each episode will be a “real life” game recreation.

Yes I have noticed by the way that it’s irritating on posts with Embedded Tweets the page shifts down just as you’re about to click on something.

Amused to see Susan Calman appearing on both. Good taste in both cases, and I always say hurrah for more work for Susan Calman.

The suggestion that Debatable is “20 x 30’ and 5×45’” strikes me as unusually weird. Sure, there have been oddities like many Countdown series being (n-1) x 30′ and 1 x 45′ for the final, and I suppose that the durations of something like The X Factor are all over the shop from episode to episode, but this heavier mix of episode lengths seems odd.

It’s possible there are some longer episodes for the weekend, or if there’s sport.

It’s meant to be going in the Eggheads slot I believe.

An extra episode on the weekend would account for four of the 45″ episodes, not five. If it starts in the autumn, Strictly would have started by then, so I reckon they’re either going out in a different slot on Fridays because of It Takes Two (which is an hour long those days) or they’re going out before Pointless during the first week of Christmas, from the 19th to the 23rd of December at 5pm. If they all air consecutively, this would give it a start date of 21st November.
