Ring of Fire

By | November 12, 2015

I can’t remember the last time a new pilot was looking for an audience, so here’s Ring of Fire filming at ITV Towers on 22nd November:

Pitting families against one another testing their physical & mental challenges, Ring of Fire is the pilot for a brand new game show. The Twist? None of the families know how well anyone else did at each game meaning it all centres around their ability to bluff.

A tense and thrilling game show filming November 22nd at London Studios on the Southbank Ring of Fire is set to be the next big thing.

The next big thing. Tickets here (Applause Store) if you’re interested.

It’s the first ever Get Your Own Back

By | November 10, 2015

Hat tip to @tvlive this morning for bringing to my attention the first episode of legendary BBC kids show Get Your Own Back has been uploaded to Youtube and goodness it looks rather sparse. I didn’t remember there being an actual Brain Box booth at all, although always quite enjoyed the first round. I hope an episode with the Video Nasty round two comes up at some point because I’m beginning to think I’ve made it up.

An interesting tweet:

The golden age of this era of the show in my eyes (before it went all arena-y) was the first series on the fairground set which expanded a little on the established format with some quite good ideas especially in the “It’s Puzzle Time” segment.

Old-skool Get Your Own Back, there. The show began in 1991 and they made new episodes for 13 years.

It’s the Children in Need Only Connect Special tonight!

By | November 9, 2015

Tonight’s guests on the popular singing-based quiz show are David Baddiel, Clemency Burton-Hill, Philip Hensher, Hugh Dennis, Bonnie Greer and AN Wilson.

This is on at 7:30pm on BBC2, Children in Need is this Friday.

Before that at 7pm is Match of the Day – LIVE! featuring the FA Cup second round draw, I would expect it’s lo-tech way of drawing will work out better than the lottery did on Saturday.

It’s not the first time the draw machine has gone wrong, of course:

Join us on Saturday 14th November for Bother’s Bar Game Night!

By | November 6, 2015

Well the first one seemed to go pretty well so I’m opening my virtual doors again for another Bother’s Bar Game Night on the 14th November, 9:30pm-11 (or whenever).

Again we’ll be covering the best of the Jackbox Party Packs and I may well go OFF THE BOARD with something EXCITING and EXPERIMENTAL/FARCIAL. It’s sure to be a laugh riot, and once again we will try to make it as interactive as possible, play along (and indeed play with us) on your phones and be prepared to hit us up live on Twitter.

Again I’ll be looking for 5-6 people to join me in the Google Hangout to react live to what’s going on, so if you’re interested hit me up here or on Twitter and I’ll consider you – I’m hoping for a mix of regulars and new people, so do get in touch if you want to take part in this one or a future one. You will at the very least need a microphone and a Google + account.

It’s Fireworks Night (tomorrow)!

By | November 4, 2015

And so we find ourselves looking for a video where something blows up. Happily if you missed it first time David mentioned a show called Homerun in the comments a few weeks ago which has a bomb that does exactly that (spoiler), fast forward until about 1:05:50 in to see this game. The show is sort of a 100,000 [insert local currency] Show a-like, the best bit is the winners trying to win keys to increase their chances of winning a house starting from about 50 minutes in. The house is worth 300,000 Guilder, the host is Bother’s Bar favourite Linda de Mol, the show is from 1997.

Quizzy Monday changes tonight

By | November 2, 2015

In honour of the US putting their clocks back the weekend just gone, Only Connect has moved to 7:30 leading into University Challenge. Fans of people laughing slightly too hard at something slightly clever will be pleased to learn this is apparently to make way for the second series of The Quizeum on BBC4 at 8:30.

I do think that’s a bit rude.

Edit: Also quite interesting, the origins of The Almost Impossible Gameshow clarified.

Also: Series one of The Million Pound Drop starts tonight at 9pm on Challenge – really interested to see how it’s edited.

Edit edit: 182,000 for The Quizeum, the first series launched with 685k. Well done everybody!
