What’s on your banana, babes? It’s fifty pounds!

Rylan’s Supermarket Sweep! Hurrah! Although interestingly it’s set for ITV2 and “pre-watershed”. I know I’m going to get comments saying “hey, it should be at 9:25!!!” but come on. At the very least ITV2 don’t put original programming on during daytime, Ellen excepted. Will it be Rylan versus Corrie?

20 episodes over four weeks and “will feature iconic elements of the original”, which presumably means saying “… Dale” after every answer. Sixty minute episodes, but presumably we aren’t about to get twenty-minute sweeps. I suspect there might be added inflatable physical challenge elements at a guess.

The other burning question is which lucky, lucky supermarket will be sponsoring it?

Probably M&S as they currently have a deal with ITV in place.

That would also explain how they are going to give away decent prizes if they use the real prizes.

Joking aside,it will be interesting to see whether the prize money is very low or if they make it into the world’s most expensive supermarket again like the 2007 version.

Flamingos or bust. It’s all about the inflatable flamingos nowadays.

I was thinking at least a variation on that (the person doing casting tweeted they’re looking for pairs of players for runthroughs)-

First half is say 6 teams competing in pairs- they do a round robin to try and get a time advantage in a shopping list sweep (have to find 6 specific items, put them in a handbasket and get back to the checkout, first team to finish wins), 2nd half is “classic” sweep….

Or they might simply do what some of the US primetime shows are doing- it’s an hour-long show, but two full and separate games are played, so it’s technically 40 games in 20 eps -(Pyramid, Card Sharks, Celeb Feud, and Match Game do this here)

Well the first ratings for Love Island US are in- and they’re not great….They ended up 3rd in the timeslot by a lot (behind America’s Got Talent and the baseball All-Star Game), and worse, the rating went down each half-hour (started at a 2.1, went to a 1.9, ended at a 1.6- AGT averaged 6.9, baseball averaged 6.0). The demographics haven’t come in yet, so we’ll have to see what happens there, but my hunch that this would be a flop seem to be accurate so far (I’m just hoping they don’t bring down US Big Brother too much). I don’t think this is going to be a Pirate Master situation (they dump the series to online-only), but if things don’t improve, it’s one-and-done….

I think flop is most likely as well, feels much more like an MTV thing really. It’s probably worth noting it wasn’t initially massive over here, but it grew.

The demos weren’t the best either- an 0.6 in the 18-49’s (AGT- 1.4, All-Star Game-1.7)..As a comparison, last Tuesday Big Brother got a 1.1 in the demo (albeit against repeats on all the other networks because of the holiday)

I’m not saying it’s a total flop- but if those numbers go down the next couple of days (especially in the demo), then there’s a serious issue…

(Fun Fact: MTV actually had the rights a couple of years ago, but didn’t do anything and let them expire before the show really caught fire in the UK..)

Maybe it was deliberate to tease it,as there’s no other reason I can figure out why that photo was taken and it’s so conspicuously in the picture.
