An extremely expensive way to get 17 minutes of content

By | June 5, 2022

We all quite enjoyed Mr Beast’s Squid Game a while ago (264 million views, likely quite a bit more than the actual drama itself), well now he’s built Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory and one of ten people will win it.

I won’t spoil what happens, although alongside Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None, Dahl basically nailed the reality procedural elimination format years before television did, so it’s really ripe for this sort of thing.

It’s just sad that real actual TV doesn’t really have the budget to do this sort of large scale thing to a consistent degree really (albeit with the sponsorships) – it’s had 29 million viewers at time of writing and it’s only been online for one day.

I actually pitched a reality challenge idea to Mr Beast a while back and I haven’t heard since.
I think he’s either too busy or maybe he did see it and felt like it wasn’t going to work.
