TV Zone reporting that The Floor is indeed for ITV, as if we hadn’t guessed already. Ten weeks, 81 players, looks like they’re using the variety of rounds the show can provide rather than just “identify the the thing in the picture”, although that will probably still be 70% of rounds. No idea of host yet (The Sun seemed to have a headline that suggested it was a ‘Hollywood Star’ but I think they got confused about Rob Lowe and they’ve modified it since).
Probably about time. We watched the first episode of the Dutch one almost three years ago and thought that it was not rubbish, since then it’s been a bit of a monster in terms of sales, and it even seems to have worked in most of them. It’s an extremely malleable format, and even though I think the strategy element is overstated, fun to watch. I look forward to seeing how it does here.

The visuals are what sell the show. If it’s going to be primetime Saturday night in the UK then at least will look like it, as opposed to some current. but hopefully the casting is good as the format itself is very basic. Although I don’t think it will be as huge here as it’s been everywhere else mainly because we’ve had variations before, some quite recently, In With A Shout, Picture Slam etc.
Was surprised by how watchable I found the American one. Good to see there will be some variety in rounds as they will absolutely run out of picture back and forths at some point. Surprised it’s taken this long for the British version to happen.
I can understand it not happening when Picture Slam AND In With A Shout are on, but now Shout’s been axed there’s a gap for it.
Watching the recent German one, about 60-70% are still “name the picture” rounds, but they’re bigger on music rounds, multiple choice question rounds (getting an answer wrong counts as a pass penalty), what thing are these four hints pointing towards rounds… there may be more I’ve forgotten.
One or two things up in the air – presumably there will still be an episodic prize to give people a reason to play on, although whether that will be “most territory wins” or “two people with most territory battle it out in a bonus duel” – if the top prize is £50k then I can’t see these being any more than £3-5k. We don’t know if it will have the “win three in a row and get an advantage” rule more recent shows have introduced – typically 5 bonus seconds, although they’ve recently bought in a “category swap” in the Dutch one.
What’s everyone’s thoughts about where The Floor will land on ITV? The only obvious slot is the axed 99 to Beat’s, but is that too obvious?
I think it’s a more premium show than the 99 To Beat slot, but £50k is a bit crap for a ten week primetime run so that’s where I think it’s looking right now.
Yeah, definitely more premium than 99. The post BGT slot would maybe suit better but it depends what’s going to happen with 1% Club next year. The Box is another that’s been said to be for Saturdays so, if true, there will be some serious jigging about for ITV. In terms of the BBC around that time, no Doctor Who but the Hole In The Wall reboot will likely air after Gladiators is done so not massive competition to launch new shows against but they will only maintain an audience if they are good enough.
I think ITV would be crazy to break-up the BGT/1% combo, it works so well for them, OTOH 1% seems to do pretty well anywhere they put it, but I’m still not sure ITV will want to tear apart their most bankable shows right now. I’m presuming ITV won’t do something stupid like put The Floor up against Michael McIntyre.
