Fun Thing Found Found on Youtube Friday

By | October 29, 2010

As we come to the end of Bother’s Bar’s Million Pound Drop Week Sponsored by Joe Who May Or May Not Be From Endemol, here’s a clip from the Russian show.

Basically they’ve got to the final question with 8m of the 10m Rouble (just over £160,000) left in play. WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN?

George and Larry Lamb play for charity this evening, and there are four more episodes on the following two Fridays and Saturdays.

Although last night’s Million Pound Drop was hated by nearly the entire Digital Spy population, @Schofe was loving it.

He also confirms that one of the two Cube celebrity specials (featuring Kelly Holmes and Jenni Falconer who doesn’t know why the contestants on this weeks DoND were dressed as trees) will now be brought forward to Sunday 21st November. Which means the show will take a break on 14th November.

There was originally going to be 7 + 2 celebrity specials but as you know they decided to stretch three contestants over two shows on two occasions and now created an 8th episode.

All the whinging on Digital Spy didn’t stop them from watching it.

    The Million Pound Drop (22:00-23:25): 2.71m (15.4%)

Well done them, I think that will put them behind Grand Designs for this week’s C4 ratings.

After watching Larry and George on last night, I’m surprised they didn’t appear on Celebrity Millionaire sooner. At least they are related than having the celebrity bookers choosing celebs who have no relation and played the show before.

Everyone is delighted by the massive ratings. It peaked at 3.5 million just after 11pm making it the most watched programme in its slot. 😀

but was that a 5 minute peak or a 15 minute peak?

Since you claim to have links to Endemol. What would’ve happened if George and Larry wasted their £1 Million last night? Was there a consolation prize?

Scratch that question, that must be a 5 minute peak.

        Nicked from DS.

        22:00 – 2.26m (10.9%)

While I’m online I have a question for you Joe. I know I have been slagging you off this week but admit you can be useful.

Do you know the reason why 1 Vs 100 wasn’t recomissioned? We know it’s not returning but nothing was confirmed why. Was it down to ratings or were there problems with the studio move to Glasgow?

The BBC deliberately killed off 1 vs 100 by airing it against Britains Got Talent. They wanted to have a new Lottery format anyway so the low ratings for series 4 gave them a good excuse to can it.

There was also an ITV issue regarding Ben Shephard’s availability for future series and it was felt by the BBC that rather than switching presenters yet again, it would be better to call it a day.

        So it seems that:

        (1) The location change didn’t matter after all – even if it had stayed at Maidstone it would have been killed off anyway,

        (2) ITV weren’t happy about Ben Shephard hosting a BBC show,

        (3) Auntie is very fond of In It To Win It.

        Thanks Joe.

What about MPD and the Lambs, what would’ve happened if they lost the entire million?

I honestly don’t know about the Lamb situation. Would be up to other people to decide.

Personally, I wouldn’t give a consolation prize as it would ruin the integrity of the show.

“joe who may or may not be from endemol”?
I’m more certain that joe has links to endemol than i am that john de mol does.
let us not forget he was the only person IN THE WORLD defending 101wtlag.

out of interest, anyone able to translate that question & answers?
also, did the russians use our set for their show, or build their own. i ask because ive always found the cage thing that lifts up entirely ridiculous, so i wonder why it would be replicated otherwise?

They built their own, looking at the clip the set is smaller to the one built at 3 Mills.

My best guess for the translation is something along the lines of “What part of Evander Holyfield did Mike Tyson bite off in a match?” My only guess for this is that after the question, the woman keeps pointing at/around her face.

According to the Youtube translation, the question was which ear was bitten.

Yikes, now that I see the translation, I totally would have blown it too. I could have sworn I remember seeing the exact opposite images from what the lady described.

Now THAT is how you handle a big shock moment like that on a game show.

Absolutely right, KP. I especially approve of how they waited for them to stop reacting to the drop before playing the lose cue, which actually made it feel all that more tragic. Magic Numbers could learn a thing a two from this lot!

I have to say, I disagree. I thought the music cue after a pause felt really clumsy and out of place, I much prefer how it’s handled on the UK version as that way it feels a lot slicker and you still get the silence after the music is over.

When that couple lost over half the money on the last question in the first series, that was the closest similarity to that Russian clip that we’ve had in the original version, it still held quite a lot of impact, especially with some of the audience reactions.

NB: In case you were all wondering the Alex above me is not the DDR-playing, terrible-music-making Alex. Because THAT Alex is me.

If you view the clip on Youtube and hit the CC button, someone has put English subtitles on.
